It's Tesla again! Announced a recall of 200,000 vehicles

Two Tesla models were recalled in both China and the United States due to quality problems.

● On December 31, the State Administration for Market Regulation announced that Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. had filed a recall plan, with the number approaching 200,000 vehicles. The recall involves two models, the Model S and Model 3 produced between 2015 and 2021, both imported and domestically produced.

The recall is large, second only to the 290,000 vehicle recalls that occurred in June due to accidental acceleration problems. The 200,000-unit recall is even comparable to the annual sales in China. According to the data of the Association, from January to November this year, Tesla's sales in the Chinese market reached 250,000 vehicles.

Specifically, Tesla will recall some imported Model S electric vehicles produced between January 21, 2015 and November 18, 2020, for a total of 19,697 units. The reason is that the vehicle may have a slightly backward alignment of the front load compartment lock latch and the lock buckle, which may affect the locking of the secondary lock latch, and the front trunk cover may suddenly open during the vehicle driving, affecting the driver's line of sight, increasing the risk of collision accidents, and there is a safety hazard.

In addition, the recalled vehicles also include some imported Model 3 electric vehicles manufactured between October 4, 2018 and November 20, 2019, a total of 35,836 units, and some domestically produced Model 3 electric vehicles from October 14, 2019 to December 27, 2020, with a total of 144208 units. The problem with this part of the vehicle is that the trunk lid has been repeatedly opened and closed for a long time, which may cause excessive wear of the trunk wiring harness, which may cause the reversing image to not work properly, thus affecting the driver's field of vision when reversing. Tesla said it would conduct free overhauls for the recall of vehicle-related parts.

In fact, the domestic recall should be part of Tesla's global recall program. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on December 30, Tesla will recall 356,300 Model 3 and 119,000 Model S, a total of 475,000 vehicles, for the same reasons as above. The number of such recalls is almost equivalent to Tesla's deliveries for the full year of 2020.

● Securities Times e company reporter combed and found that Tesla has frequently recalled incidents this year. For example, Tesla recalled about 35,000 imported Model S and Model X in February, the problem is in the eMMC storage unit; in June, it recalled a total of nearly 290,000 domestic Model 3, Model Y, and imported Model 3, which may cause the vehicle to accelerate by mistake due to active cruise control problems; and recalled 21,599 domestic Model Ys in December because the strength of the front and rear steering knuckles did not meet the requirements.

It is worth mentioning that Tesla China raised the price of two models again today, of which the model 3 started at 10,000 yuan to 265,600 yuan, and the model Y started at 21,000 yuan to 301,800 yuan. Both models are expected to be delivered in 12-16 weeks.
