It gets colder and you get a stroke when you take a shower? The doctor tells you the right way to bathe

Winter in Changsha is coming, the feeling of cold is becoming more and more obvious, and the number of inpatients in the Department of Neurology of the Second People's Hospital of Hunan Province (Hunan Brain Hospital) is also increasing.

At work today, I heard two patients talking about you: "The weather is getting cold, someone had a stroke when they were taking a bath", "How is it possible, alarmist, how can you have a stroke in a shower", "It's true, the grandmother I know who danced together suddenly had a stroke after taking a bath", "Then I didn't see a stroke every day when I took a shower", "I don't know, let's ask the doctor together". So I took two patients to Director Zhou Nina's office to ask about this question.

It gets colder and you get a stroke when you take a shower? The doctor tells you the right way to bathe

Zhou Nina, deputy chief physician of the Second Cerebrovascular Disease Neuronal Zone of the Second People's Hospital of Hunan Province (Hunan Provincial Brain Hospital), explained with a smile: What everyone calls stroke, which is called stroke in medicine, includes ischemic stroke (cerebral infarction) and hemorrhagic stroke (cerebral parenchymal hemorrhage, ventricular hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage), which is a disease of brain cell and tissue necrosis, with obvious seasonality and a higher incidence in the cold season. The main predisposing factors are hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, atrial fibrillation, poor lifestyle habits (eg, staying up late, smoking, and alcoholism), being overweight and obese, agitation, overexertion, and improper bathing practices.

"Taking a shower can actually have a stroke, then it is not impossible to take a bath after that!"

Director Zhou continued: Grandma, you don't have to be too anxious, many people who have stroke have underlying diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, etc., coupled with excessive changes in body temperature, blood pressure will fluctuate greatly, which will easily lead to atherosclerotic plaque shedding and blocking blood vessels or causing cerebral blood vessels to rupture, resulting in stroke.

It gets colder and you get a stroke when you take a shower? The doctor tells you the right way to bathe

When the bathroom temperature is very low, we take off the clothes inside will be vasoconstriction, blood pressure rises, when bathing, the body temperature will rise rapidly, so that blood pressure will rise again, and then the blood vessels throughout the body will begin to expand, blood pressure will decrease, so that blood pressure in a short period of time suddenly high and low, it is easy to cause plaque on the blood vessels to fall off, causing stroke. But this is a controllable factor, and as long as we master the correct way to bathe, we can avoid it to the greatest extent.

So let's talk about the correct way to bathe in the cold season:

1. Before preparing for the bath, we can turn on the heater in advance to raise the bathroom temperature

2. Open the shower, let the bathroom have water vapor, the bathroom temperature is best at 22 ~ 26 degrees

3. Pay attention to the bathing order: wash your face first, wash your feet again, then rinse your body, and finally wash your hair.
