According to JATO Dynamics Market Research, sales of the Model 3 increased 84 percent year-over-year to 113,397 units as of November this year. The Volkswagen ID.3 compact hatchback came in second, with sales up 125% in the first 11 months of this year to 63,109 units. The Renault Zoe came in third, with sales of 60,551 units in the first 11 months of the year, down 27 percent. In 2020, the Renault Zoe was the best-selling electric car in Europe.
The last time the Model 3 topped the European electric vehicle rankings was in 2019. In September, the Model 3 beat traditional internal combustion engine models such as the Golf and Renault Clio to become the best-selling car in Europe that month, the first time an electric car won the European monthly car sales championship.
In the second half of this year, Tesla imported Model Y SUVs from China, thus boosting sales in the European market. In November, Tesla Model Y sales surpassed Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4. Schmidt expects Tesla's overall market share in Western Europe to reach 2 percent this year, more than double the 0.9 percent in 2020, surpassing Jaguar Land Rover.
