According to the Shunzhi Emperor's ideas, the country must be made emperor by an older person, so as to avoid interfering in the government like the regent Dorgon and overriding the imperial power. However, at that time, the eldest son of the Shunzhi Emperor was only eight or nine years old, so Shunzhi rejected the idea of passing the throne to his son, and his ideal heir was his cousin Yue Le the Prince of An. After Shunzhi's idea was proposed, it was resolutely rejected by Empress Xiaozhuang.
Because Empress Xiaozhuang fell in love with Xuan Ye, she thought that Fuquan was blind at first sight and had lost the emperor's dignity. The Shunzhi Emperor, who had no choice but to argue, issued the last order in his life: to appoint the eighth-year-old third son of the emperor as the crown prince, to give him the name Xuanye, and to select the most loyal Soni, Suksaha, Shubilong, and Aobai as the four assistant ministers for the first year of the Kangxi Dynasty. It was precisely because of the persistence of Empress Xiaozhuang and John Tang that Kangxi successfully sat on the throne for 60 years.
