"Living Martyr" Chai Yunzhen:

He has been hiding his name for thirty-three years

Chai Yunzhen: Thirty-three years of deep hiding of meritorious names

In the battle of Park Dafeng in the battlefield of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, he charged alone, annihilated more than a hundred enemy troops, and destroyed the enemy's battalion headquarters! In peacetime, he was ordinary and indifferent, and quietly returned to the countryside of Yuechi County, Sichuan Province. When the organization found him, this "living martyr" with 24 scars had returned to his hometown to work as a farmer for thirty-three years.

Why don't you mention your own merits? He once said: "I am not a hero, the real heroes are those comrades who sacrificed." ”

He is Chai Yunzhen, the recipient of the "July 1st Medal", the "Special Meritorious Hero" and "First Class Combat Hero" of the Chinese Volunteer Army.

Sharp knives on the Korean battlefield

Chai Yunzhen grew up poor and worked as a small long-term worker in a landlord's home. In the War of Liberation he joined the People's Army.

[In order to fight for the poor, he marched south to the north]

During the Battle of Huaihai, Chai Yunzhen joined the 132nd Regiment of the 44th Division of the 15th Army of the People's Liberation Army and fought for the liberation of the whole country.

In December 1949 in Guangxi, together with more than a dozen comrades, he solemnly raised his hand and swore an oath to join the party in front of the bright red party flag. In Bijie, Guizhou, he led a team to suppress bandits overnight, went deep into the tiger's den, and captured 8 bandits alive without spending a single shot or a bullet.

When the U.S. army burned the war to the Yalu River, in 1951, Chai Yunzhen accompanied the troops under the leadership of Qin Jiwei, then commander of the 15th Army. In May, this heroic unit fought the fierce Battle of Park Dafeng.

Park Dafeng is more than 60 miles southwest of Jinhua, and once the defensive line is breached, the volunteer army headquarters and the main army corps of the eastern front will be threatened.

At dawn on May 30, 1951, the U.S. army attacked Park Dafeng under heavy artillery fire and under the cover of aircraft and tanks. The enemy attacked for many consecutive days, and our army did not retreat half a step. On the sixth day of the fighting, the enemy officers became even more frantic, and rushed the soldiers to attack the mountain beams without roads, and almost all the officers and men of the Seventh and Ninth Companies on the position were killed.

At the moment of crisis, Chai Yunzhen stepped forward.

【Park Dafeng Resistance Battle He Created a Battle Miracle】

General Qin Jiwei personally took note of Chai Yunzhen's outstanding battle achievements: Chai Yunzhen, who was then the commander of the seventh squad of the Eighth Company, divided the whole squad of four people into two groups and pounced on the first hill from both sides, beating the enemy to flee in a daze. Chai Yunzhen took advantage of the situation to catch up, unexpectedly, and recaptured the second hill, annihilating the enemy a squad...

Chai Yunzhen was wounded 24 times, his flesh and blood blurred, and he fainted on the ground, but he bought time for the follow-up troops and played a key role in consolidating the position of the whole battalion.

In this battle, Chai Yunzhen led 3 people to retake 3 hills in a row, destroyed 1 enemy battalion command post, and annihilated more than 200 enemy people, and Chai Yunzhen himself annihilated more than 100 enemy people. The Political Department of the Volunteer Army gave him a special merit and awarded him a "first-class combat hero", and his company became the eighth company of special merit. His deeds infected the volunteer soldiers, and this heroic unit followed up with Huang Jiguang and Qiu Shaoyun...

Chai Yunzhen: Thirty-three years of deep hiding of meritorious names

In peacetime, he chose to hide his fame

After the war, Chai Yunzhen "disappeared", and his heroic medal was not received at the celebration meeting...

[He became an ordinary farmer]

After the war, Chai Yunzhen was transferred to Baotou Hospital in Inner Mongolia for treatment and lost contact with the original troops.

In April 1952, Chai Yunzhen returned to the countryside of Yuechi County, Sichuan Province, without mentioning his own merits, and became a farmer in a down-to-earth manner with a third-class B disabled soldier certificate and a demobilization fee of 500 kilograms of food stamps.

The old mother was overjoyed. She calculated that the demobilization fee of 500 kilograms of food stamps would be reserved for her son as a bride price, and for his son to marry and have children.

Unexpectedly, Chai Yunzhen actually did not listen to his mother's words and ran to help the villagers who could not open the pot. A descendant of a villager said: "He sent ten pounds of food stamps to my father, and he said that your family is in difficulty, go buy rice to eat." ”

【Abide by the original intention and maintain the true color of party members all your life】

Chai Yunzhen was elected by the villagers as the leader of the production squad and the captain of the brigade. In 1961, he and his members studied disaster resistance and self-help, and distributed the barren vacant land on the hillside to the members for farming to solve the problem of famine among the masses.

Villager He Tianxiu's family interrupted cooking, and Chai Yunzhen gave her a few pounds of food stamps and some money to buy grain. He Tianxiu secretly went to the Chai family to see that the Chai Yunzhen family had no food, only to see that the bowl was filled with salt boiled water, the adults and children were drinking loudly, and there were only a few wild vegetables.

During the reform and opening up period, he took the lead in demonstration, bought back two sows, and raised the piglets born by the sows on credit to the villagers, leading the masses to get rich.

Chai Yunzhen, who became a farmer, was full of love and enthusiasm for the villagers, and demonstrated with practical actions the true qualities of a Communist Party member who kept his original intention and undertook the mission.

Chai Yunzhen: Thirty-three years of deep hiding of meritorious names

The "living martyrs" were found

In 1984, the troops finally found him. For more than 30 years, he never called himself a hero.

[Looking for a hero, he didn't want to admit it at one point]

The party, the state, and the troops have never given up on the search for Chai Yunzhen. The search team has found Shanxi, Hebei, Henan, Hubei... He has been looking for Yangquan in Shanxi, and found Sun Hongfa, a comrade-in-arms who rescued Chai Yunzhen from the battlefield, and learned that Chai Yunzhen seemed to be from Sichuan. The search group hastened to publish twice in the Sichuan Daily the notice of "Searching for the Hero chai Yunzhen of the Battle."

On September 12, 1984, the newspaper carrying the search notice was seen by Chai Yunzhen's eldest son, Chai Bingrong. Chai Bingrong told his father, and Chai Yunzhen denied: "It's not that I'm not me. ”

Originally, Chai Yunzhen's real name was Chai Yunzheng, but due to the tense fighting during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, the unit documents mistakenly wrote "Chai Yunzheng" as "Chai Yunzhen" when handing over the roster of personnel.

"It is you who you are, and the place where you look at the war is you!" Chai Bingrong's face was excited.

Chai Yunzhen waved his hand and said, "Don't add a burden to the country." ”

Chai Bingrong hurriedly said, "Knowing that your style is high, don't you want to see your comrades-in-arms every day?" It is better to go and see the old comrades-in-arms and the old chief. ”

When this came to Chai Yunzhen's heart, he sold a pig in his family, exchanged it for 100 yuan for a road fee, and came to the troop garrison in Hubei.

【"Living Martyrs" Always Remain Advanced】

In October 1984, Chai Yunzhen, a combat hero who had been missing for 33 years, finally contacted the troops. Chai Yunzheng is changing his name to Chai Yunzhen in line with history.

In October 1985, Chai Yunzhen and other combat heroes participated in the 35th anniversary of the Chinese Volunteer Army's battle in Korea. North Korean friends arranged for them to visit the North Korean Military Museum and were greeted by a huge portrait of the special hero Huang Jiguang. Later, in front of another painted portrait of a battle hero, a North Korean friend explained: "This hero is Chai Yunzhen, a hero and martyr in the Fifth Campaign to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea! ”

Chai Yunzhen stood in front of his "relic" with mixed feelings. At that moment, he seemed to be back in the rain of bullets and bullets, and the shouts of killing were earth-shattering...

"I'm still alive, please give me this portrait." Chai Yunzhen requested, and he personally took off his "portrait". The North Korean side sighed: "You are not a martyr, you are a living hero!" ”

"I am not a hero, the real heroes are those comrades who sacrificed." Chai Yunzhen answered.

Later, he was elected as a deputy to the Seventh National People's Congress and a member of the Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, submitted a number of proposals in the field of three rural areas, and volunteered to participate in patriotic education and propaganda.

I remember the old chief invited him to dinner and asked him if he had any difficulties, and Chai Yunzhen said: "Everyone has hands, I can still work, although it is difficult, I can live without causing trouble to the country." ”

On December 26, 2018, Chai Yunzhen passed away peacefully in Yuechi, Sichuan, at the age of 93. On June 29 this year, on the podium of the Golden Hall of the Great Hall of the People, Chai Yunzhen's eldest son Chai Bingrong was honored as his father to receive the "July 1st Medal". Chai Yunzhen's grandeur is fierce, does not seek fame and fortune, and always inspires people to remember the responsibility of party members and carry forward the heroic spirit.
