This was the first battle of the Jinji-Hebei Luyu Field Army advancing into the Dabie Mountains.
In October 1947, after Chiang Kai-shek's heavy troops encircled and swept the Platon Army across the Yellow River, the main forces of the First Column and the Second Column of the Jin-Hebei Luyu Field Army jumped to the east of Hubei in one fell swoop and fought several victorious battles in a row, so Chiang Kai-shek judged that the People's Liberation Army was going to cross the Yangtze River, and urgently sent the 203rd Division, the New 17th Brigade, and the 40th And 82nd Brigade of the Youth Army to advance rapidly, in an attempt to compress the first column and completely annihilate the Guangji area.
The plan is tempting.
The 40th Division and the 82nd Brigade took the lead, so they went deep alone. The Jinji-Hebei Luyu Field Army decided to kill it with a hui horse gun, with Yang Yong commanding the first column, the sixth column, and the independent brigade to annihilate the enemy at Gaoshanpu.
How is this battle fought?
Good to be good at alpine paving terrain. It is itself a basin surrounded by mountains, the southernmost part is a narrow valley, there is a gap in the west, and the HongwuYan Mountain and the Boundary Ridge are towering on both sides of the road, which is the only way for the enemy to pass. As long as the enemy occupies these two key points first, it will choke the throat of the highway and realize the goal of closing the door and beating the dog. Yang Yong said: "Hit the enemy by surprise!" ”
How to fight an enemy caught off guard?
Yang Yong's method was: to control jieling and hongwuyan mountains with one force, block the enemy, and the main force would attack in a combination to encircle and annihilate the enemy in motion between Shilipu and Jieling.
To this end, Yang Yong issued a battle order.
Unexpectedly, the plan is not as big as the change. The next day the war changed.
When the battle was about to begin, the other units of the field army did not follow, and Yang Yong could only use three brigades, while the enemy army was four brigades. If the reinforcements of the field army could not arrive in time, Yang Yong would have to fight a war of attrition and suffer a big loss.
Another problem is that after the three brigades under Yang Yongneng's command entered Dabie Mountain, the attrition was very serious, and the infantry company was reduced from the original 200 to 100 or even 70 or 80 people. In addition, the Plakmen has no rear, no mass base, and no heavy weapons.
As a result, a telegram came from the headquarters of the field army, saying that this was the first battle to march into Dabie Mountain, which was quite crucial, and that we must be cautious, unsure, and not fight. Yang Yong said that he could win, but his superiors still felt that he was not sure, but fortunately, he did not stop Yang Yong, but immediately decided to transfer six columns to assist in the battle, and let the 4th Brigade of the Second Column act as a reserve. At the same time, he ordered the second column to assemble at Houshanpu, the main force of the third column in western Anhui, and the troops of the Eyu Military Region at Luotian Songbu to contain the enemy and block the enemy's reinforcements.
Because of the telegram exchange, the battle was launched half a day later than planned.
When the enemy was all in his pockets, the vanguard of the column also entered the hongwu mountain at the southernmost end of the ambush circle. After the two sides received the fire, it was a fierce battle, and it was difficult to understand. As a result, the enemy and we reached the east and west sides of Hongwuyan Mountain, the highest peak of Gaoshanpu, at almost the same time! The ambush began.
The enemy did not expect that the Platon Army, which had just made a long journey to the Dabie Mountains and had an unstable foothold, could launch such a large offensive, and at first thought that it was a small group of local armed forces, which was inappropriate, until it was surrounded and overwhelmed, and thought that the PLA's strength in Gaoshanpu was no more than one brigade. Unexpectedly, it was completely impossible to break through.
That night, Yang Yong decided to launch a general attack on the enemy in the encirclement at 11:00 a.m. the next day.
The enemy resisted desperately and fought all night.
At dawn the next day, the main forces of the 6th Column, as well as the 2nd and 19th Brigades, all arrived and joined the battle. Yang Yong suddenly found that the enemy in front of Hongwu Mountain and Jieling Was crowded in formation, and seemed to be extremely panicked. At this time, the commander of the sixth column suggested: "Advance the general attack." ”

Therefore, the general offensive was launched two and a half hours ahead of schedule and at 9 o'clock.
Before the general offensive was launched, a new situation emerged, and a column radio reconnoitred the command position of the enemy's 40th Division at the Qingshui River. Yang Yong immediately ordered: "First get rid of the enemy's division headquarters." ”
As a result, the heavy troops of 5 regiments directly inserted themselves into the headquarters of the enemy's 40th Division along the banks of the Qingshui River, and the offensive was very fierce, and the 38th Regiment and the division's direct subordinate units, which were responsible for defending the division headquarters, were caught off guard, and were immediately scattered and released sheep. Zhang Zhaolin, deputy platoon commander of the 59th Regiment of the First Column of the People's Liberation Army and a combat hero, led the entire platoon to rush toward the enemy division headquarters and captured all the personnel of the enemy division.
This is very powerful, like a snake hitting seven inches, knocking out the enemy's command system in one fell swoop.
The enemy lost his command, collapsed like a mountain, and then was chased by the People's Liberation Army, with no way out, and they all raised their hands in the rice fields and surrendered.
In this way, the pre-war headquarters did not advocate the battle of Gaoshanpu, and after two days of fighting, Yang Yong swung his division to completely annihilate the enemy army, and he only suffered 800 casualties, but annihilated more than 10,000 enemies.
So the soldiers happily escorted the captives out of the battlefield, who knew that another unexpected thing happened: Chiang Kai-shek sent planes from Wuhan to drop a large number of steamed buns and burnt cakes on Gaoshanpu and Qingshui River to "reward" this victorious division.
