Nintendo's legal department intervened again: five pirated Switch ROM sites were blocked

The ban means six UK ISPs – BT, EE, Plusnet, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media – must block access to specific pirated ROM sites for two years.

IT House understands that the ban was filed on December 2, 2021, and Nintendo requested a website blocking order under Section 97A of the Copyright, Design, and Patents Act of 1988. The six ISPs were asked to block access to five domains: nsw2u.xyz, nsw2u.org, nsw2u.com, nsw2u.net and nswrom.com. Nintendo says these domains offer pirated Versions of ROM.

Nintendo considers these sites to be commercial in nature because they serve ads that generate revenue based on page views and pop-up ads. Given that its primary audience is young people, Nintendo has also expressed concern about the emergence of adult content during the download process.

Nintendo also claims that it has repeatedly tried to contact the owners of these sites through its lawyers in order to resolve the issue outside of court, and that it believes that all the sites mentioned are owned by the same entity.
