Watching TV while driving? Or it will be legal in the UK!

[Aika Auto Industry News Original]

Recently, according to overseas media reports, the British Transport Department has proposed a bill to amend the traffic regulations, which allows drivers to watch TV movies through the built-in screen of the car in the state of automatic driving, but the use of mobile phones is still prohibited.

The new regulations require that if the vehicle is always in one lane in the autonomous state and the speed is below 60km/h, the driver can watch TV and movies in this situation, but should be prepared to take back control of the vehicle at any time. In addition, the new rules also define the determination of liability for traffic accidents in such cases: the driver is not personally liable and will be responsible for the insurance company.

The new rules in the United Kingdom coincide with the UN-R157 regulations issued by the United Nations, which comprehensively define the L3 level of automatic driving, which limits the speed of the car to 60km/h, and does not allow lane changes. In the future, the UK government hopes to establish a complete regulatory framework by 2025 to support the widespread deployment of driverless car technology. Earlier this year, the Law Commission of England, Wales and Scotland published a joint report recommending the introduction of a new Autonomous Vehicles Act.
