During the Republic of China, it was the era of the alternation of old and new ideas, so there were a large number of literary talents who led the direction of social progress, although before this, the status of women was greatly suppressed, but their strength was not small, after allowing them to learn knowledge, there were excellent female representatives in all walks of life, what we want to talk about today is Lin Huiyin, her talent in architecture is more than many men.

As we all know, If Guo Mo is a very famous writer, archaeologist, and construction industry in the Republic of China period, he can't beat it, so how did people in these two fields work against each other? It all stemmed from the transformation of Beijing. As the capital of the Ming and Qing dynasties, Beijing naturally has a very strong ancient architectural style, these ancient buildings represent the development of a period, of course, but also slowly become a unique style of Beijing. But after the founding of New China, the most controversial part of the state's intention to transform Beijing was the discussion of whether the old city wall would be demolished.
For people like Lin Huiyin, who are very good at architecture, they think that the old city wall is the history of being placed there, and there is no difference between those cultural relics and antiques, they are the wealth of the country, once demolished, and then want to build, it is a fake, there is no value. If the old city wall is made into a scenic park, it must be very attractive. In this regard, her husband Liang Sicheng is of course also on her side, after all, they are all engaged in architecture, and they know where the value of these characteristic old buildings is.
But for literati like Guo Moruo, they felt that the most important thing in that era was to break the old ideas, and these old buildings were the shackles of ideas, and only by demolishing them could the country enter a new era. They didn't understand what Lin Huiyin said, and they didn't want to understand it, anyway, the role of these walls was to resist foreign enemies, and now that the country had entered an era of peace, it was useless to ask for these things.
In the end, Lin Huiyin, together with Liang Sicheng and other architectural schools, failed to explain these stubborn literati, the old city wall was demolished, Lin Huiyin fell ill because of this, and within a few years she died of illness. The result? In 2004, the state once again rebuilt the city tower of Yongdingmen, which is not a complete confirmation of what Lin Huiyin said at the beginning? Indeed, these reconstructed walls, if they resemble them, are forgeries, they have no historical atmosphere, they are just lifeless buildings.
In this regard, many scholars said that they did regret the demolition of the old city wall later, and they did not think of the historical value of the city wall at that time, leaving regrets for the architectural community.
