At first, the idea of excavating Dingling was opposed by everyone, except for the archaeologist Guo Moruo, who insisted on excavating it in order to better understand the history of the Ming Dynasty, in order to find the Yongle Canon, which is the largest and most complete encyclopedia in the world.
It is Guo Moruo's obstinate behavior that has caused the biggest tragedy in the history of Chinese archaeology, and it is also a pain that Guo Moruo can never erase in his heart, and it is even more strange in the process of excavation.
In 1955, Guo Moruo specially applied to excavate the Ming ChangLing Tomb, that is, the mausoleum of Ming Chengzu Zhu Di, but after some investigation, it was found that due to the limited archaeological technology at that time, it would be difficult to excavate the Ming Chang Mausoleum, so the experts decided to excavate the Ming Chang Mausoleum after a moment of discussion.
After everyone had decided, they also found the entrance to the Ming Tomb, but at this time the archaeological work was stalled, because they listened to the folk rumors that the mausoleum was cursed, and if anyone went down, it would offend the curse, then the offending person would be cursed, and one of the most famous curses in history was the Tutankhamun Curse, which was a striking pharaoh in ancient Egyptian history.
A pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty of the New Kingdom, who died in 1352 BC when he ascended the throne at the age of 8, he was only about 18 years old when he died of illness at an early age, but his short life left a treasure that shocked the world, the British archaeologist Howard Carter.
In 1922 in the Egyptian historical city, luxor near the Valley of the Kings found Tutankhamun Mausoleum, when the people who entered the mausoleum were strangely dead, the first person to die was called Kanafon, he was also the first to enter the entrance of the mausoleum, just entered as if something was stung under the feet, and then the next day a strange death, in the next few days a total of more than twenty archaeologists, are inexplicably bizarre death, and then this series of bizarre deaths, It is known as the curse of Tutankhamun.
Now that archaeologists are facing the Ming Dynasty cemetery where 13 emperors were buried, would there be a bizarre curse inside if the mausoleum was opened?
In 1955, the archaeological team finally began to excavate the work, they just dug the trench to more than a meter deep, they dug to the bottom of the hard thing blocked, and then the archaeologists cleaned up the soft soil, found a hard long stone, the stone is also engraved with three words of the tunnel door, then the archaeologists followed the instructions on the stone bar, continued to dig deeper, and sure enough, after half a day of digging, there were new discoveries, the archaeologists dug a wall, and later after careful study by experts, they said, This is the first barrier at the entrance of the imperial tomb, also called the ticket gate, open this wall to enter the underground imperial tomb.
The expert's voice did not fall, the sky suddenly clouded with heavy rain, the archaeological team had to suspend the excavation work first, has been waiting for a week or so, the archaeological work began again, but the trench that was dug before has been washed by the rain and can not be found, helplessly can only dig another trench from the new, the archaeological team dug another ditch along the previous ditch, this digging does not matter directly to the gate of the underground palace, and then the archaeological team used wooden planks to pry through the wire, and finally opened the gate of the underground palace.
The Wanli Emperor may not have imagined that the mausoleum he had built for many years, after more than three hundred years, the descendants actually opened their sleeping mausoleum in this way, although the tomb door was opened, there was a wall behind the tomb door, at this time, an old man with a flower armor said on the side, I heard the ancestors say that there is a wall behind the tomb gate called the King Kong Wall.
And there is a backwater river behind the King Kong Wall, if you want to go through this river, unless it is the person who matches the birthday of the Wanli Emperor, others will be sunk to the bottom of the river if they cross the river, this remark makes the archaeologists panic, but they are afraid that the archaeological work will continue, and then the archaeologists go up to the top of the ladder and carefully dismantle the first Diamond Brick, but immediately a thick black smoke is emitted inside, which covers the entire Kongo Wall.
It turned out to be a common gas in mausoleums
Because the body was buried underground for hundreds of years, if the seal is not good, it will lead to the decay of the body, and then turn into a corrosive gas, this gas has no harm to human beings but the smell is bad, and then the archaeologists continue to work, slowly dismantling the Kongo wall piece by piece, and did not find the backwater river just mentioned.
Three red coffins are in sight, the coffin in the middle is the coffin of the Wanli Emperor, the one on the left side of the Wanli Emperor is Empress Xiaoduan, and the right side of the Wanli Emperor is Empress Xiaojing, who was posthumously crowned empress after her death.
When the archaeologists opened the coffin, the scene inside shocked all those present, the coffin was full of various precious cultural relics, including jade bowls and jade pots, and a crown made of pure gold, etc. Archaeologists later recalled that when the Diamond Wall was demolished, the originally clear weather became dark, accompanied by this lightning and thunder.
There is also an old man who said that this is because of the violation of the Wanli Emperor, making the Wanli Emperor Long Yan angry, do not want people to disturb his mausoleum, so it will make the weather suddenly change color, and there is a lightning flash, just hit the top of the Ming Building, the top of the Ming Building above the Beast was split in half, but also in warning the archaeologists not to dig down, but the archaeological team at that time did not think that it continued to dig down, and it did not take long to dig down to see the gate into the mausoleum, and the mausoleum gate was made of a whole piece of marble. Exceptionally heavy and hard.
If you want to open the door can only be outsmarted, is to find the mechanism to open the door, archaeologists in the four look around did not find, and finally can only use the pry method to open the door, pry open the gate archaeologists found that this mausoleum is particularly large, divided into the front hall nave of the apse composition, the front hall of the ground is only some scattered gold and silver treasures, and the most conspicuous of the nave is three white jade carved seats, the middle is also placed in the four treasures of the study room and a large ceramic cylinder, the cylinder is filled with grease in the middle and there is a wick that has been extinguished, Is this the long light of folk rumors?
Then the archaeologists came to the apse, and what came into sight was three red coffins, which talked about the coffins of the Wanli Emperor and the two empresses, and there were dozens of boxes of funerary products around the pipes, although the box wood had decayed and scattered with the burial products, and all kinds of gold, silver, jade, pearls and jadeites were all over the ground, scattered on the ground of the apse.
Subsequently, archaeologists found more rare treasures in the three coffins, such as the three dragons and two phoenix crowns and the gold silk hundred zi clothes, etc., as well as a variety of jade gold and ceramics and many other cultural relics, ming ding tomb a total of nearly 4,000 precious cultural relics,
However, the only thing that Guo Moruo wanted to find was the world's largest and most complete encyclopedia "Yongle Canon", this archaeological excavation due to limited technology, many precious cultural relics were oxidized after encountering air, and it was also the most tragic archaeology in history.
This incident became the biggest failure in Guo Moruo's professional archaeology career, and it has been indelible pain.
