Died of illness
In the seventeenth year of Zhenguan, Wei Zheng died of illness. Li Shimin was very sad and went on strike for five days. This was not an honor that ordinary people could have at the time. Li Shimin ordered Wei Zheng to be buried, but was rejected by Wei Zheng's wife Pei Shi on the grounds that Wei Zheng's life preference was simple. The coffin was loaded in a small cart, and Li Shimin summoned hundreds of civil and military officials out of the city to send them off, weeping bitterly, and personally writing an inscription for Wei Zheng. He also said the saying that has been passed down through the ages: "With copper as a mirror, you can wear a crown; with ancient times as a mirror, you can know the rise and fall; with people as a mirror, you can see the gains and losses." Keep these three mirrors in case you pass by yourself. Now Wei Zheng died, and he died in a mirror! ”
In the same year, Li Shimin placed Wei Zheng's portrait in Ling Yan Pavilion, ranking third among the twenty-four meritorious men. It can be seen that Li Shimin really attaches great importance to Wei Zheng.

Posthumously broken
This was mainly because Wei Zheng had recommended two people to Li Shimin, Hou Junji and Du Zhenglun, saying that these two people had the ability to be prime ministers and should reuse them. As a result, Hou Junji actually rebelled, and Li Shimin was furious, executed him, and deposed Du Zhenglun.

However, Wei Zheng's tombstone was not always broken, and in the nineteenth year of Zhenguan, Li Shimin personally led an army to conquest Goguryeo, suffering heavy losses and failing to destroy Goguryeo. At this time, Li Shimin remembered Wei Zheng's benefits and said that if Wei Zheng was there, he could advise me, and I would not be like this, so he sent someone to repair Wei Zheng's tombstone and sacrifice him according to the ritual of the young prisoner.
Since Gu Jun's heart was unpredictable, who could have imagined that Li Shimin trusted Wei Zheng so much that he actually broke Wei Zheng's monument.
