Recently, the Intelligent Industry Research Institute of Tsinghua University announced that Dr. Zhang Hongjiang, Chairman of Beijing Zhiyuan Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, will join Tsinghua AIR as an Outstanding Visiting Professor. In May this year, Zhang Hongjiang was named the 2021 Global Top 1000 Computer Scientists, ranking first among Chinese mainland scientists.
Recently, the Intelligent Industry Research Institute of Tsinghua University announced that Dr. Zhang Hongjiang, Chairman of Beijing Zhiyuan Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, will join AIR as an Excellent Visiting Professor.
Dr. Hongjiang Zhang is an internationally renowned pioneer and opinion leader in the field of multimedia, receiving a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Zhengzhou University in China and a ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Danish University of Science and Technology.
Dr. Zhang Hongjiang served as chief technology officer of Microsoft Asia Pacific R&D Group and president of Microsoft Asia Engineering Institute, one of the first ten "outstanding scientists" of Microsoft, one of the founders and vice presidents of Microsoft Research Asia.
Since October 2011, Dr. Zhang Hongjiang has served as CEO and Executive Director of Kingsoft and CEO of Kingsoft Cloud. He is also a director of Cheetah Mobile, Thunderbolt Limited and 21Vianet Data Centre Limited.
On April 20, 2017, Source Code Capital announced that Zhang Hongjiang joined Source Code Capital as Venture Partner.
In May 2018, he announced that he was appointed as a senior consultant of Carlyle Investment Group, and in 2018, he was appointed as the chairman of the Beijing Zhiyuan Artificial Intelligence Research Institute. He is currently the non-executive chairman and independent director of AAC Technology, and the independent director of Xiaopeng Automobile and Huami Technology.
Academically, Dr. Hongjiang Zhang is a dual fellow of the International Computer Society (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE).
For his pioneering contributions, Dr. Zhang was awarded the Outstanding Asian American Engineer Award in 2008. In addition, Dr. Zhang received the 2010 IEEE Technical Achievement Award and the 2012 ACM SIGMM Technical Achievement Award.
In the list of top 1,000 top scientists in the field of computer science and electronics in 2021, it is worth mentioning that 53 Chinese scientists have been selected, and Zhang Hongjiang ranks first among Chinese mainland scientists.
At present, Dr. Zhang has published nearly 400 academic papers, holds nearly 200 international patents, and is one of the scientists with the highest impact factor in the international computer field.
Served as air distinguished visiting professor
Zhang Hongjiang and Zhang Yaqin, two heavyweights in today's domestic AI industry, established a deep friendship as early as 1999.
At that time, Microsoft Research Asia was about to be established. Zhang Yaqin, vice president and chief scientist of Microsoft Research Asia, invited Zhang Hongjiang to join in the establishment of this research institute with far-reaching influence on China's computer industry.
In the years since, the two of them, together with Kai-Fu Lee and Shen Xiangyang and a group of computer scientists, have supported the "half of the country" of China's AI in the future.
In 2003, the two co-founded two other Microsoft research institutes, the Microsoft Asia Engineering Institute and the Microsoft Asia Pacific R&D Group.
Time flies, and in 2021, after some exchanges between Zhang Yaqin, Dean of the Intelligent Industry Research Institute (AIR) of Tsinghua University, Ma Weiying, Chief Scientist, and Professor Zhang Hongjiang, it was announced that the "Tsinghua (AIR) - Zhiyuan Health Computing Joint Research Center" was established.
The in-depth cooperation between Tsinghua AIR and Zhiyuan Research Institute is also the second meeting of Zhang Yaqin, Zhang Hongjiang and Ma Weiying after Microsoft's farewell.
