Dr. Qiu previously served as a professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin and as Chairman of the International Computer Society's Wireless and Mobile Systems Committee (ACM SIGMOBILE). Major research areas include Beyond 5G, voice positioning, motion tracking, etc.

She is also one of the few Chinese in the world to hold the ACM/IEEE Fellow designation at the same time.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Qiu Lili was born in Shanghai, and this time she joined Microsoft Asian Research Institute and will be mainly responsible for the research work of Microsoft Research Asia (Shanghai) and cooperation with all walks of life.

Worked at Microsoft Raymond Research

Qiu Lili grew up in Shanghai, attended Nanyang Model Middle School in middle school, and then moved to the United States to pursue undergraduate studies.

In 1996, Qiu received his degree in Computer Science and a double degree in Physics from the University of Bridgeport.

She then received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Cornell University.

Before joining Microsoft Asia Research Institute, Qiu Lili had actually worked at Microsoft Raymond Research Institute, when she was a researcher in the systems and networks group.

In 2005, Qiu joined the University of Texas at Austin as an assistant professor of computer science, and was later promoted to tenured full professor and doctoral supervisor for his outstanding achievements in the field of Internet and wireless networks.

Academically, Qiu lili serves as chairman of the International Computer Society's Special Committee on Wireless and Mobile Systems (ACM SIGMOBILE) and is also an ACM Fellow, IEEE Fellow, and ACM Distinguished Scientist.

She has received the ACM MobiSys 2018 and IEEE ICNP 2017 Best Paper Awards, as well as the National Science Foundation Young Scholar Award (NSF CAREER Award) and the Google Faculty Research Award.

Among them, the NSF CAREER Award is an award established by the National Science Foundation to support young outstanding scholars, which provides a five-year research grant for the award-winning scholars, with an average of 200 scholars receiving this award each year.

The Google Faculty Research Award, a Google award for motivating teachers, has funded about 2,000 researchers in computer science, engineering and other related fields around the world.

Qiu Lili's main research areas are operating systems, distributed systems and networks.

At present, he mainly researches Beyond 5G, network tracking and applications, voice positioning and applications, wireless video, network data analysis and machine learning.

Google Scholar papers have a total of 15517 citations and an h-index of 60.

In addition to academics, Qiu Lili is also involved in the industry.

In 2017, Hauoli, a startup where she serves as CTO, launched a way to track virtual objects with sound.

This method requires only software to use, no additional tracking hardware is required, and it can be used with almost any speaker.

In the demo, you can see that with just one phone, the software can measure the distance from the speaker and can also be used for drawing.
