Huang Jiguang, a native of Zhongjiang County, Sichuan Province, was born on January 8, 1931 to a poor peasant family. In March 1951, he joined the Chinese Volunteer Army and became a soldier of the 6th Company of the 2nd Battalion, 135th Regiment, 45th Division, 15th Army of the Volunteer Army, and then went to the Korean Battlefield with the troops.

In a letter to his mother's family, Huang Jiguang said that he must kill the enemy and make meritorious contributions to the motherland for his family. In October 1952, the Battle of Shangganling was fought. Shangganling, located on the Five Holy Mountains in central Korea, is the gate of the volunteer army's central line and a steel knife that penetrates the enemy's heart. On the night of October 19, Huang Jiguang's battalion was ordered to seize The 597.9 Heights west of Shangganling. After capturing 3 positions in succession, the troops were blocked, and the organization of 3 consecutive explosions did not work. It was nearly dawn, and not taking the high ground would delay the entire fighter. At the critical moment, Huang Jiguang stepped forward and requested to take on the task of blasting and lead two soldiers to attack the stronghold.

Huang Jiguang and others were found less than 50 meters away from the enemy's fire point, flares and searchlights turned the entire hillside into daylight, countless machine guns sprayed out tongues of fire, swept to their hidden places, one soldier unfortunately died, the other was seriously injured, Huang Jiguang's left arm was also hung up, but still stubbornly crawled forward.

It is less than 10 meters away from the enemy fire point! Huang Jiguang threw grenades at the enemy, but because the fire point was too large, only half of the side was blown up, and the machine guns that were not destroyed protruded from the remaining firing holes, and the volunteer charge was once again blocked.

At this time, Huang Jiguang, who had been injured in many places, leaned on his side, climbed to the dead corner of the bunker, leaned upwards, pounced hard, blocked the muzzle of the enemy's tongue of fire with his chest, and died heroically, only 21 years old. "The enemy's machine guns were instantly muted." Gao Jinwen, who witnessed Huang Jiguang's death at the time, recalled the instructor of the 82nd Mortar Company of the 135th Regiment of the 45th Division of the 15th Army of the Volunteer Army. The comrades shouted "Avenge Huang Jiguang" and rushed up, seizing the high ground in one fell swoop.

After the war, the headquarters of the Volunteer Army posthumously awarded him the honorary title of "Special Hero". Over the years, Huang Jiguang's company has always been the vanguard and leading the way in various urgent, difficult, dangerous, and heavy tasks, and has been awarded the honorary titles of "Model Sixth Company of Airborne Troops," "Pioneer Company for Fighting Floods and Emergencies," and "Huang Jiguang Heroic Company" by the Air Force, and was awarded the honorary title of "Model Airborne Company" by the Central Military Commission.
