There is no threshold in the "Ice Sail" venue, and the barrier-free facilities show the temperature of Beijing

The National Gymnasium, once the venue for the trampoline competition at the 2008 Olympic Games, will take on the task of ice hockey during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. Renovation work was completed in December 2020. At present, the venue has the conditions to host the competition and has been inspected by many "Meet in Beijing" test activities.

The Lychee News reporter learned from the Beijing Municipal Major Project Office Urban Venue Construction Office that the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will make extensive use of the venues of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, and the National Stadium is one of the 7 renovation venues. In addition to renovating the main hall and adding ice-making functions and dehumidification systems, a new ice hockey hall was built on its north side as a training hall, and facilities such as locker rooms were added. After the reconstruction, the total area of the venue is about 98,000 square meters, equipped with two ice hockey ice surfaces that meet the standards of Olympic events, one for official competitions during the Winter Olympics and one for pre-game training and warm-up.

The "Ice Sail" set sail again

After this magnificent turnaround, the National Gymnasium will continue to serve the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. In order to highlight the elements of the Winter Olympics, the National Stadium has widely issued a "solicitation order" to widely solicit nicknames from the whole society for the National Gymnasium with ice and snow elements. On the occasion of the 100-day countdown to the Winter Olympics, the nickname collection activity that has attracted the attention of netizens was announced - "Ice Sail" officially became the nickname of the National Stadium, which was perfectly integrated with the "Ice Cube" and "Ice Ribbon" and other venues in the Olympic Park.

"Ice Sail" is inspired by the appearance of standing on the Olympic Tower and looking at the National Stadium, like a giant sailing ship sailing smoothly on the shore of the lake in the Olympic Central District; from the name, the word "sail" of "Ice Sail" echoes the English nickname ICE FAN of the National Stadium. In addition, the National Gymnasium experienced the Summer Olympic Games in 2008, and set sail again after 14 years, shouldering the historical mission of hosting the ice hockey project of the Beijing Winter Olympics, the National Gymnasium, as a witness and witness to the development of the motherland, carries hope and sustenance, travels steadily and farther, and sets sail.

Barrier-free facilities reflect the temperature of Beijing

On the basis of the original, the National Stadium has improved the barrier-free facilities as a whole. All the passenger elevators have been revamped, there is no threshold in the venue, and people with disabilities can directly access the competition venue and barrier-free stands from each entrance. The museum also added 36 barrier-free stands, which are highlighted according to local conditions and made into a balcony-like appearance, scattered at the entrances of various venues, so that disabled spectators can be closer to the hockey competition venue, can be integrated with other spectators, and greatly enhance the viewing experience. In addition, during the Paralympic Games, in the athletes' locker room to the competition venue, all the simulated ice boards are laid, and the slope of the ramp is reduced, and the athletes can slide into the competition field from the locker room, which solves the inconvenience of athletes who need to change the ice sled after entering the field due to the inconvenience of the venue. During the competition, the National Stadium reserved the best spectator seats for the disabled people, showing humanistic care.

The prefabricated dressing room can be transformed

The National Stadium adopted a new prefabricated dressing room design. Because ice hockey has its particularity, heavy sports equipment, ultra-long appliances, sportswear need to be dried, and ice knives need to be polished and trimmed frequently. These all put forward higher requirements for the athletes' locker room. The entire dressing room is designed to consist of 14 changing units, each of which includes an athlete's knife grinding room, a storage room, a toilet, a shower room, a massage room, a coaching room, and a dressing room.

At the same time, in order to ensure that the locker room not only meets the needs of athletes in the Beijing Winter Olympics, but also conforms to the sustainable concept of the Winter Olympics, the builder adopts the modular process of prefabricated containers, that is, the main structure and components of the locker room are all standardized design, factory production, and the site is assembled like building blocks. After the game, each locker room unit can be disassembled into 8 separate boxes or re-spliced into a new room as needed, and the recycling rate can reach more than 95%.

The venue highlights the Elements of the Winter Olympics

It is understood that as the venue of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the appearance of the National Gymnasium is as far as possible to maintain its original appearance. The façade of the extension also continues the design elements of the main and auxiliary pavilions, whether it is from the roof shape, the selection of the façade or the division of the spatial scale, which is consistent with the original building.

At the same time, in order to fully reflect the ice and snow elements of the Winter Olympic Games, the façade design of the new training hall adopts the ice cube shape glass curtain wall design that highlights the elements of the Winter Olympics, and uses embossed glass with a smooth side and a concave and convex texture on the other, a total of 863 pieces. The largest is more than 8 square meters, using a staggered arrangement, with lighting, it will realistically present the effect of being built by a piece of crystal clear ice barrier, creating a strong winter sports atmosphere.

Actively build green and sustainable venues

Adhering to the concept of "green Olympic Games", the National Stadium will transform the venues in accordance with the standard of "two-star green building". The extension is designed with imitation ice glass tiles, which fully introduce natural lighting, and adjust the natural lighting through the external and internal shading systems to minimize lighting energy consumption. In terms of energy, the National Stadium uses conventional municipal central heating during the heating season and air-source heat pump system heating in the non-heating season, which is more efficient and has lower operating costs, thus saving energy consumption. In terms of air quality, the indoor air purification function of the National Stadium will be increased, and 90% of the space will have air purification capacity, and will be equipped with sensors to achieve automatic adjustment of fresh air, which fully reflects the sustainability of the building.

In addition, the ice surface of the transformed National Stadium can not only meet the needs of the race, but also be converted to figure skating, short track speed skating and other projects, which greatly improves the utilization rate of the ice rink. At the same time, the venue also realizes the "amphibious" ability of winter and summer sports, and has the ability to convert ice rinks and summer sports venues in both directions. In the future, in addition to carrying out mass ice and snow and youth ice and snow activities, the national stadium will also integrate the ice and snow industry with culture, tourism and science and technology to build a more comprehensive and three-dimensional industrial chain.
