During the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games, the National Gymnasium undertook Paralympic ice hockey events. Before the start of the race, paralympic athletes riding trolleys can often be seen, which becomes a unique landscape. On March 10, at a regular press conference jointly held by the International Paralympic Committee and the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee, Lei Ming, executive deputy director of the Stadium Operation Team of the National Gymnasium, introduced that the careful staff found that some athletes were not very convenient and comfortable to use wheelchairs, so they came up with this method to transform the flatbed into a "miniature welfare TAXI", and the results were widely praised.
In the National Stadium's Athlete Service Group, there is a huge team. They are busiest before and after sports teams train, before and after competitions, because of the need to transport athletes and their equipment, to and from the locker room and the playing field. In addition to 4 wheelchairs and 7 shopping carts similar to those in supermarkets, there are also 4 flatbed trucks that were originally transporting goods, which were converted by smart staff into "micro-welfare TAXI". Everyone spread yoga mats and towels on the flatbed truck, and also decorated with snow melting balloons and Paralympic posters, which were popular with athletes with wide protective gear because of their convenience and spaciousness.
Why retrofit a flatbed? "Because the attentive staff found that some athletes were not very convenient and comfortable to use in wheelchairs, they came up with this method, and the results were widely praised." Thunder explains.
There are also many heartwarming moments playing out in the venue. Lei Ming introduced that before each game, the venue will provide 50 ice balls for the ice warm-up of the two participating teams, volunteers will seek the opinions of the team, and then exert their wisdom and imagination to use these ice balls on the board wall to place different patterns and shapes, some are national abbreviations, some are the team's mascots, some are some national elements, some are trophies or victory patterns, which express a good wish for the sports team.
