New progress in India! Tesla has three more models certified

According to the Hindu Business Line, Tesla has three more models certified in India, indicating that Tesla is closer to a full market in India, the world's fifth-largest car market.

A step closer to India

At present, Tesla has a total of 7 models approved by the Indian Automotive Testing and Certification Agency.

In August, four models of the company, led by Elon Musk, were certified in India, or certifications for road travel, and they met specific standards set by local agencies.

Tesla's Model 3 and Y test cars are often found on roads in India.

Tesla currently sells four models in the United States.

Earlier this month, Tesla's V2 supercharger was discovered in India.

Is it important?

Tesla has been lobbying the Indian government in hopes of lowering import taxes on electric vehicles before it starts selling them in India.

Musk tweeted in July that India's auto import tariffs were the highest in the world. Tesla said India's tariff structure would not make its operations in the country a "viable proposal."

If the price of an electric vehicle is higher than $40,000, it will be subject to 100% import tax, and electric vehicles under $40,000 will be subject to an import tax of 60%.

Tesla's demand for tax cuts has sparked outrage among domestic automakers over its investment in India. According to local media, the government asked Tesla to "come up with an investment blueprint for tax cuts."
