The United States or sanctions SMIC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Serious concerns about relevant reports

On December 15, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian presided over a regular press conference. A reporter has reported that the US government has asked questions about considering sanctions against Chinese chipmaker SMIC.

Zhao Lijian said that the Chinese side is seriously concerned about relevant reports. Economic globalization is an objective reality and a historical trend, and China has always believed that scientific and technological achievements should help all mankind, and should not become a means to restrict or curb the development of other countries. Individual politicians in the United States have generalized the concept of national security, politicized, instrumentalized, and ideologicalized science and technology and economic and trade issues, violated the principles of market economy and fair competition, and will only threaten to damage the security of the global industrial chain and supply chain, undermine international trade rules, and are typical political manipulations that harm others and harm themselves.

Zhao Lijian pointed out that the US side should work with the international community to safeguard open, fair, just and non-discriminatory scientific and technological development and the international business environment. We advise some people in the United States to abandon the Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice, stop abusing state power to unjustifiably suppress China's specific fields and enterprises, and stop acts that violate the principles of the market economy and international trade rules. China will, as always, resolutely defend the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
