Synopsys, or Synopsys, founded in 1986 and headquartered in California, USA, provides electronic design automation software and intellectual property services.
Suspected of providing key technologies?
Synopsys is under investigation by the U.S. Department of Commerce, citing key technologies to banned Chinese companies, people familiar with the matter said.
Synopsys was allegedly accused of providing chip designs and software to Huawei's HiSilicon semiconductor for production at SMIC.
Previously, Huawei was added to the "U.S. Entity List" in May 2019, and SMIC was restricted in December 2020.
One is China's largest manufacturer of communications equipment and the other is China's largest chipmaker, both subject to U.S. sanctions.
U.S. companies are barred from selling key technologies to Huawei and SMIC because they are deemed a threat to U.S. national security.
