On December 12, 2021, GAC Group announced the official listing of its new generation GS8 next to the Humen Bridge in Guangzhou. The new car launched a total of 6 models in two power forms, the Pilot Series (fuel version) and the Dual Engine Series (Hybrid Version), and the official guided price range was 186,800 yuan to 246,800 yuan. The second-generation Trumpchi GS8 is based on the GPMA architecture and offers two seating layouts for consumers to choose from, 6-seater and 7-seater.
In terms of appearance, the new car continues the style of the old model, and the front part adopts a larger intake grille and provides different styles according to the two different model power forms of the new car. Among them, the Pilot series adopts the "Spread Wings" design, while the Dual Engine series adopts the "Dragon Scale Wing" design, with a new LED headlight group known as the "Eye of Conquest", which has an exclusive lighting effect. The new car is the first open-and-close design based on the previous matrix layout, which is more atmospheric.
On the side of the body, the new car mostly uses straight and sharp lines, highlighting its tough atmosphere, but also visually elongated the side lines, and some models are also equipped with hidden door handles. The rear part of the car is basically the same as the current model, but the internal light cavity of the L-type taillight has been redesigned, and it has a certain degree of recognition after lighting, with chrome decorative strips and a two-sided exhaust layout, which is very simple and atmospheric.
In terms of body size, the new car is 4980mm/1950mm/1780mm in length, width and height, and the wheelbase is 2920mm, which is an increase in length, width and wheelbase compared with the current model, providing 2+2+2 six-seater and 2+3+2 seven-seat seaters for consumers to choose.
In terms of interior, the new car adopts a relatively simple design style, equipped with a 14.6-inch large-size suspended central control display and a 12.3-inch mosaic LCD dashboard, and replaces most of the physical buttons with a touch design, which is full of technology. In addition, the new car also provides suede covered interior panels, and the seat shape and fabric have been completely redesigned to further enhance the texture of the interior.
In terms of configuration, the new car is equipped with ADiGO 4.0 intelligent IoT and OTA upgrade functions, AR-HUD head-up display, new shape of the gear shift lever, 32-color mood lights and intelligent driving assistance functions.
In terms of power, the second-generation Trumpchi GS8 provides two powertrains, fuel version and hybrid version. The Pilot Series is equipped with a new 2.0T GDI engine developed by GAC motor with a maximum power of 252 horsepower and a peak torque of 400 Nm. In terms of transmission, it matches Aisin's 8-speed automatic transmission and provides a four-wheel drive system, while the dual-engine series is equipped with the THS hybrid system cooperated with Toyota, which is composed of a 2.0T four-cylinder turbo engine (190 hp) and an electric motor (182 hp), and the transmission is matched with an E-CVT transmission.
