As the saying goes, soldiers and horses do not move grain and grass first, and the importance of grain to the army is beyond doubt. But in history, there have been cases in which the army has food and has starved to death. That is, a paragraph on the Internet: it is said that during the Northern Expedition, the Southern Song Dynasty army starved many people to death because they did not eat millet. Is this true?
There is indeed this record in history, in the last year of Emperor Gaozong Shaoxing of the Song Dynasty, the Jin army attacked the Song on a large scale, and the soldiers retreated after defeat, "abandoning corn like mountains, and the Song army was many Fujian Jiangsu and Zhejiang people, and could not eat millet, so there were dead in the day." (Xu Mengxin, "Compilation of the Three Dynasties Northern League.") If you think it is unreliable, there is a record, and that record is more detailed. The Song Shi Liechuan Vol. 128 records that when the qi of the Emperor yu had been seized, the king of Riyu had arrived, and he abandoned gejia and corn mountain accumulation, and the armies relied on it. However, the Min (Cheng Min) army was many Zhejiang people, did not eat millet, and many people died. At that time, Yan Liang's southern invasion failed and he was killed by his subordinates. The Jin army abandoned a large amount of supplies. As a result, at that time, most of Song Chengmin's subordinates were from Zhejiang, and as a result, they starved to death when they saw that Xiaomi did not eat.
Reading this, is it not strange that people are hungry unless they are allergic to something. Otherwise, grass root bark rats eat, not to mention millet. And don't southerners eat millet? It should be known that Fan Zhongyun had two liters of millet a day when he was studying, and Fan Zhongyan was a typical southerner (Suzhou). So the Soldiers of the Southern Song Dynasty really did not eat millet and starved to death?
It depends on what kind of person the commander of this army is. Cheng Min ( 成闵 ; Dzong ) was a general of the Southern Song Dynasty , a character of Qiong , a character from Juren , Xingzhou ( Xingtai , Hebei Province ) . In the early years of Jing Kang, he served under Liu Wei. Emperor Gaozong ascended the throne, and Min led hundreds of horses to Yangzhou. After that, he followed Han Shizhong in pursuing Miao Fu and attacking Wushu and asking Fan Ruwei. Because of his hard work, he became a martial arts doctor and a Chungju assassin. When the veteran generals were deprived of their military powers, Cheng Min rose step by step, successively serving as the defense envoy of DiZhou, the commander of the Youyi Army in front of the palace, and the envoy of the Baoning Army. After waiting for the twenty-fourth year of Shaoxing, he paid homage to the Envoy of the Qingyuan Army. Looking for Ding's mother's worries, he raised his heart and gave it to his mother, Lady Zheng Guo.
Does it feel normal for readers to see this experience? Let's see why he can rise. After the Shaoxing Peace Conference, the righteous warriors who fought in the main battle were either killed or degraded. And Qin Juniper used special talents for people, and Song Gaozong also liked to use those who were greedy for money. So this into Min... Later, Yan Liang invaded the south. As a veteran general, Emperor Gaozong of Song ordered Cheng Min to take the former army of the temple to guard Wuchang, ordered the local official cao Chuang in Hubei to receive 30,000 rooms, and distributed more than 1.4 million taels of finances and 630,000 stone rice to him. In other words, even if his soldiers did not eat millet, they would not starve to death.

As a result, in November, Emperor Gaozong of Song issued an edict to cheng min to return to Aid Huaixi. As a result, Cheng Min marched eastward day and night, and many of his subordinates died of exhaustion. The rush to march was understandable, but he had embezzled all the supplies given by the imperial court to treat the soldiers. As soon as a soldier complained, he was killed immediately. When Yan Liang died, Cheng Min led his troops across the river to Yangzhou. When the Jin soldiers crossed the Huai River north from Xuyi, Cheng Min did not dare to pursue at all. The historical record is: Min Liebing on the south bank, the sergeants heard each other. Jin Ren laughed and said, "'Send a voice to become a lieutenant, with a diligent escort.' ''
▲Xuyi position
An incompetent commander like this who is timid, greedy, and does not treat soldiers as human beings. Do you think his soldiers really starved to death because they didn't eat millet? I am afraid that I will die by "drinking the blood of soldiers", and then report a reason for not eating millet and dying. Cheng Min soon entered the dynasty, and at that time, all the attendants, the secretaries of state, the cabinet doors, and the internal servants did not accept bribes from him. Even after being impeached by Zuo Zhengyan Liu Du, Cheng Min was still worshiped as a lieutenant and in charge of the affairs of the palace. It was not until he was listed by the imperial history that Cheng Min was deposed as a lieutenant and went to live in Wuzhou (similar to light control) and seize the Qingyuan Festival. However, in the early years of Qiandao, his residency restrictions were lifted and he returned to Huzhou; what was even more peculiar was that he was reinstated by officials soon after: seeking the edict and resuming the festival, and all of them commanded the Zhenjiang armies. Nine years, please words, to Shi, zhiyuan first in Pingjiang. Finally, Cheng Min died in the first year of Chun Hee, at the age of eighty-one. Gifted kai fu yi with three divisions.? Isn't that a surprise? This kind of person ends up being treated like this.
In fact, in the Southern Song Dynasty, there were many officers like Cheng Min, such as Cheng Min's old superior Yang Yizhong, who was deposed, and there were 22 large and small wineries that were actively donated, worth 725,000 yuan. In addition, there are more than 39,000 acres of land in Chuzhou. There are also countless Zhang Jun's family wealth, and people give them the nickname General Qianyan. During the reign of Emperor Ningzong of Song, Hua Yue attacked the southern Song Dynasty's three officers at the time: Shuang, Yi, and Ruyi Zhu Li for their greed and cowardice. When Li Shuang mentioned here is known as the general of straw shoes, it is not that he loves to wear straw shoes but that soldiers ask soldiers to weave straw shoes for him to sell for money.

The Song Dynasty had great trust in such warriors, and some incorruptible ones such as Yue Fei were very jealous (when Yue Fei was raided, Song Gaozong and Qin Ju originally thought that they could make a windfall and were disappointed). This taste is still the reader's own slow taste.
