Chen Xianrui was born in 1914 in Jinzhai, Anhui (China's second general county, famous as admirals Hong Xuezhi and lieutenant general Pi Dingjun), born in a poor peasant family, and was bullied since childhood to herd cattle for the landlord's family. At the age of 15, Chen Xianrui joined the Red Army. In October 1932, after the main force of the Red 4th Front withdrew from the Eyu-Anhui Soviet Zone, in order to persist in the struggle in the Soviet Zone, the General Headquarters of guerrillas in Northeast Hubei was established, with a special agent four brigades below, and 18-year-old Chen Xianrui served as the squad leader of one of the special agent squads.

In October 1933, the Red 25th Army sent Cheng Fangwu to Shanghai to report to the Party Central Committee, but failed many times on the road. Later, Chen Xianrui served as the director of the political department of the 19th Corps, and yang Dezhi and Li Zhimin led their troops to go to Korea.
In May 1934, after Liu Zhen was transferred from the special agent class, he served as the political commissar of the Red Army company instructor, battalion, regiment and division.
