He fled from his hometown of Linquan County, Anwei Province, to a nearby village in Xi County, Henan Province. A kind old lady gave him a set of worn-out but dry clothes to change into, and then introduced him to "help" to make a living, in contemporary parlance called "part-time work".
After he returned from cutting grass and herding cattle every day, he was carrying water and burning pots, and he had a "live" in his eyes, but he won the favor of the landlord's daughter. One night when the crescent moon was hanging from the treetops, the hidden door of his cabin was gently pushed open and tucked into a new pair of flat shoes and a set of clothes...
However, before the new shoes could be changed, he was put into a national military uniform — he was arrested by the Kuomintang. At the time of parting, the moving cheeks of the landlord's daughter were covered with moving tears...
On the evening of the second day when Zhang Gangjian entered the Nationalist military camp, a commander was impatient and opened his bloody mouth to him nakedly: "You fucking don't understand the rules, why don't you pay tribute to Lao Tzu!"

He escaped from the "devil's den" and bumped into the "devil"—colliding with another chief, and he was suddenly pale with fright, and his legs "bounced up cotton."
However, the chief took his hand and came to his house, took out a small leather bag, squeezed out a little white like batter from it, and smeared it on Zhang Gangjian's bleeding forehead. Later, Zhang Gangjian learned that it was toothpaste.
After Zhang Gangjian's wound was healed, he was very grateful to the chief. After inquiring, I learned that the commander's name was Ma Ji, and he was an aide-de-camp. Zhang Gangjian only had one strength to say a word of gratitude to the battalion deputy. Although good words cannot be used as money, he still "makes".
The first time they met, Deputy Ma Ji of the battalion did not say anything more, but only reminded Zhang Gangjian to have more eyes. Zhang Gangjian felt that the battalion deputy seemed to have less of the "temperament" of a Kuomintang officer and more of a poor people's heart, so he secretly decided to follow Ma Ji.

As the saying goes, water the flowers and roots, obey the sound. Zhang Gangjian began to ponder Ma Ji's words, and Ma Ji was also further "examining" Zhang Gangjian without moving.
Since then, they have been in contact more frequently, gathering together to talk more than 10 times a month, and the red army has always been inseparable from the conversation circle. After a long time, more conversations, and mutual understanding.
One stormy night, Ma Ji called Zhang Gangjian to his house and told him that a soldier named Lei had secretly given a machine gun to the Red Army. It is like temptation and like an inducement. It is nothing less than a "spring thunder".
One day in June 1932, the wheat was ripe and the nationalist army was going out to grab grain. In order to ensure the grain snatching team, each sentry must send a strong sentry to defend. Ma Ji, deputy commander of the battalion, said to the company commander: Zhang Gangjian is very loyal and sent him to the head of Dongshan to put up a sentry.
One day in the national army for a year and a half, Zhang Gangjian carried a machine gun and took the strength of his old nose to climb to the top of the East Mountain. "Comrade Zhang Chenglin (Zhang Gangjian's original name), Ma Ji wants us to meet you." He joined the Red Army and changed his name to Zhang Gangjian in 1933.

Zhang Gangjian, who was from han ethnicity, was one day transferred to the chief of staff of the Huimin detachment. The Huimin detachment, most of them are Huimin, wearing white towels, and the environment and personnel he faces are unfamiliar.

Approaching the house, he did not let him in, and sat down at the door of the house, and the man handed him a cup of tea. Looking at the wet person coming in and out, he thought that this might be the place to take a bath.
After a while, someone asked him whether he was "big clean" or "small clean" and "middle clean". Zhang Gangjian thought that Dajie might have bigger water and wash faster. So, casually said, "Clean it!" ”
As soon as he entered the room, under the guidance of people, he used his head to put up a "water pipe", and the hot water flowed from the top of his head to his whole body, so hot that he screamed and ran outside...
It turned out that when people handed tea, they saw that he did not use his left hand to pick up the tea bowl, knew that he was not a Muslim, and deliberately "hotwashed" him. Muslims are very particular about bathing, not saying that bathing is big, medium and small.
"Xiao Jie" means to put the pants under the knees and wash them; "Zhongjie" is to wash in the wooden basin that covers the tent, only above the knees and below the navel; "Big Jie", that is, there is a reed on the top, and the head is on top, like tap water flushing down...

Zhang Gangjian rushed to Yudong less than 10 minutes, and a battle came for him to "pick up the wind and wash the dust".
Zhang Gang's sword was like a sheathed sword, wielding a bayonet and leading his troops to fight with powerful enemies. however. There were more than 7,000 Japanese devils, and Zhang Gangjian led only two companies of more than 200 officers and men. When the bullets were almost finished, they slashed and killed with large knives, fighting the enemy's flesh and blood, fighting to the death.
However, due to the fact that the enemy was outnumbered, the officers and men led by Zhang Gangjian were surrounded by enemy regiments, which can be described as the enemy's siege of thousands of weights!
In the midst of the battle, Zhang Gangjian did not forget to fight wisdom, and ordered the second company to climb from the wheat field to the rear of the enemy and compete with the Japanese army. So there was a clanging sound of killing in the front, and suddenly there was the sound of machine guns and grenades in the back, and the enemy thought that our army's "reinforcements" were coming, and soon it was "weak".
Commander Zhang Gangjian led more than 200 officers and men to crush an enemy division after 9 days and 9 nights of bloody fighting.
In the Eastern Henan Military Subdistrict, Zhang Gangjian fought in one breath for more than a year without stopping. He was praised by the officers and soldiers as the "sword of the sun", which made the enemy even more frightened. Puncture the blue sky is not broken!
After several years of life in the Huimin detachment, Zhang Gangjian has also become a "lifelong" Huimin who never eats pork and lives according to the Habits of the Hui people during the festival. His bloodline has been integrated into the Muslim detachment.
In order to never forget the commemoration and retain the last precious image of the national hero, Hebei photographer Zhao Wenling used the lens to record the members of the Huimin detachment, walked through 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, and took portraits and tens of thousands of pictures of more than 140 Huimin detachment members.
In order to search for Zhang Gangjian, an indispensable and important figure, photographer Zhao Wenling traveled three long distances from Hebei to Sichuan, traveling tens of thousands of miles, asking more than 3,000 people, calling more than 500 people, and finally in the 22nd year, he found Zhang Gangjian, the fourth chief of staff of the Muslim detachment. Unfortunately, at this time, Zhang Gangjian had fallen into a coma, his life was in danger, and he could not speak.
However, the heroic deeds of Zhang Gangjian and the Huimin detachment have been engraved in the depths of history. The founding colonel, along with a generation of veterans, wrote the legend of an era.
Zhang Gangjian's biography: He joined the Red Army in 1933 and joined the Communist Party of China in 1934. He successively served as a staff officer, battalion commander, chief of staff of the detachment, head of an independent regiment, and commander of the 2nd Sub-district of the Jiluyu Military Region. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he successively served as the commander of the Wenjiang Military Subdistrict and the commander of the Nanchong Military Subdistrict. He was awarded the rank of colonel in 1955. He retired in July 1964 and enjoyed the treatment of retired cadres in the regular military. He died in Chengdu in March 2013 at the age of 101.
