Born in 1902 in Dongxinzhuang, Xianxian County, to an ordinary Muslim family, Ma Benzhai fought more than 870 battles and led his troops to eliminate more than 36,000 Japanese puppet troops.
In August 1941, the Japanese army washed Dongxinzhuang in blood, trying to coerce Ma Benzhai and the Huimin detachment to surrender by capturing Ma Mu, the great mother Bai Wenguan was awe-inspiring, hunger strike for many days, and martyred heroically, when Ma Benzhai was engaged in a fierce battle with the Japanese army, when he heard the news of his mother's death, he endured grief and shouted in front of his hometown: "Mother, the child is not filial, let you suffer, I must avenge you with blood and life!" And wrote down the vow of "great mother, although dead and alive, children inherit their mother's aspirations, and continue to struggle."
In January 1944, Ma Benzhai was ordered to go to Yan'an, the holy land of revolution, with the Huimin detachment, because of years of war life, Ma Benzai became ill with overwork, and he deeply felt that his body could no longer set off with the large troops, so he forcibly endured the pain of his body and gave all the commanders and fighters a final mobilization, he repeatedly instructed all the commanders and fighters to follow the party and Chairman Mao to fight to the end, and in February of the same year, Ma Benzhai died of illness in the rear hospital of the Jiluyu Military Region, at the age of 42.
