The series of reports "Striving for a Hundred Years of Road To Set Sail on a New Journey • A Number of Popular Figures", today let us remember the anti-Japanese hero Ma Benzhai.
Ma Benzhai, born in 1902 in Xianxian County, Hebei Province, to a poor Hui peasant family, was once the commander of the Feng army, and after the September 18 Incident, he returned to his hometown in anger because he was dissatisfied with the Kuomintang's policy of non-resistance to Japan. After the Lugou Bridge Incident, he organized the Hui people's anti-Japanese volunteer team to rise up against the enemy. In 1938, Ma Benzhai led a team to join the Eighth Route Army, joined the Communist Party of China in the same year, and successively served as the commander of the Third Military Subdistrict of the Jiluyu Military Region and the commander of the Huimin Detachment. He led his troops to fight more than 870 battles and eliminated more than 36,000 Japanese puppet troops. In January 1944, ma Benzai became ill with illness and made the last mobilization for the troops: calling for "to follow the party and resist to the end!" On February 7, Ma Benzhai died of illness at the age of 42.
