When the clan saw this, they hurriedly let his mother's coffin out of the main gate, and these filial pieties are still touching to the heart. When he first followed his father back to the provincial tomb, he was only 12 years old, and when he saw the elderly in the stone bed, he took the initiative to kneel down and prostrate, and when he ate at the table, he helped the elderly to pick up vegetables and add food. This kind of filial piety was once a good story in the countryside.
Tan Yanmin's wife had a son and three daughters, and she was weak and sick after childbirth and died very early. Before his death, he asked his husband to continue the string. However, Tan Yanmin was affected by his mother's illness, and the clan rule that "concubines cannot be buried from the gate of the clan shrine after death", and he could only carry out the stimulation from the side door of the clan shrine, vowing not to take concubines for a lifetime. When Tan Yanmin was in Shanghai as an official, he only took his little daughter Tan Xiang to live with him, living in a widower' house, and taking pleasure in chasing the world's cuisine.
Tan Yanmin is very strict about his private life. When his wife died, he was just 40 years old, and when he was full of energy and emotion, many people made matchmakers for him, and he used "the old man's kindness and love, and he can't bear to find a new face" as the reason for rejecting the matchmaker. After his wife's death, he wrote mourning poems to his wife year after year until the end of his life.
In 1922, Chen Jiongming rebelled, and Sun Yat-sen was expelled from Guangdong and went to Shanghai. Tan Yanmin treated Sun Yat-sen very kindly, and in order to help Sun Yat-sen make a comeback, he sold his land and spent 50,000 Guangyang to pay Sun Yat-sen for his military salary. Sun Yat-sen then greatly increased the use of Tan Yanmin, making Tan Yanmin the minister of internal affairs and the commander-in-chief of the Northern Expedition.
Tan Yanmin went all out to rescue Sun Yat-sen when he was in distress, which made Sun Greatly grateful, and Sun Tan's relationship was even closer. When Sun Yat-sen prepared to build the Whampoa Military Academy, he wanted Tan Yanmin to be the principal. However, Tan Yanmin's ambitions had been lost and ceded to Chiang Kai-shek. The Whampoa Military Academy thus became Chiang Kai-shek's greatest military and political capital.

He stopped his interaction with Soong Mei-ling, and in turn acted as an old man under the moon, actively matching Chiang Kai-shek and introducing him to Soong Mei-ling.
Sun Yat-sen once wanted to marry his sister-in-law Song Meiling to Tan Yanmin, but what he did not expect was that he was rejected by Tan. In order not to live up to Sun Yat-sen's kindness, and not to hurt the face of the Song family and Miss Song's self-esteem, Tan prepared a generous gift to the Song family, solemnly bowed to the old lady of Song and bowed to Gan Niang, and recognized Song Meiling as a dry sister. Tan is dignified, intelligent, and sweet-mouthed, so he is very popular with Chiang Kai-shek and his wife, tan Yanmin "often goes to Chiang Kai-shek's official residence to talk, and he must take Man Yi with him every time."
In September 1930, Tan Yanmin was hospitalized for cerebral hemorrhage and was dying. Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling visited the big matchmaker in the hospital, and Tan Yanmin struggled to make two demands on Chiang Kai-shek and his wife: one was to help his youngest daughter Tan Xiang find a husband among the young officers; and the other was to hope that Chiang Kai-shek would treat well the Second Army on which he had started. Chiang Kai-shek naturally agreed. On September 22, 1930, Tan Yanmin died at the age of 50. After Tan Yanmin's death, the Nationalist government ordered a state funeral, and his tomb was built a few kilometers east of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's mausoleum.
