Paraffin wax is a lubricant fraction obtained from crude oil distillation by solvent refining, solvent dewaxing or wax freezing crystallization, pressing dewaxing to obtain wax paste, and then degreased, and supplemented with refined flake or needle crystals. With the continuous expansion of paraffin wax, the world paraffin trade volume is also increasing, especially China, the world's major exporter of paraffin wax, its export volume accounts for more than 60% of the world's total paraffin trade.
According to the data, 2015-2020 China's paraffin export volume showed a fluctuating trend, in 2020 due to the impact of the new crown epidemic, the paraffin production declined, so that paraffin exports also declined, as of the end of 2020, China's paraffin exports fell to 612,500 tons, down 2.5% year-on-year. Due to the impact of the epidemic, foreign devices stopped production, production reduction, international paraffin resources significantly reduced, as the world's largest producer, China's resources are favored, from January to June 2021 China's paraffin exports of 387,200 tons, an increase of 34.77% year-on-year. Exports account for more than 52% of total domestic production, which greatly reduces domestic resources.

Mexico and the United States have always been China's main exporters, in the first half of 2021, China's exports of paraffin wax to Mexico and the United States reached 88977.5 tons and 75804.6 tons respectively, accounting for more than 40% of the total exports.

Compared with exports, paraffin imports as a whole are at a low level, in 2015 paraffin imports fell to less than 10,000 tons, and then paraffin imports have been maintained at 5000-7000 tons, in 2019 China paraffin imports of 6700 tons. In 2020, due to the impact of the new crown epidemic, the domestic paraffin wax production was reduced, coupled with the decline in paraffin prices in the international market and the rise in domestic paraffin wax prices, so that paraffin imports in 2020 rose rapidly, reaching 15,100 tons, up 125.37% year-on-year. From January to June 2021, the total import of paraffin wax was 14,800 tons, an increase of 185.62% year-on-year.

From the relevant data, it can be seen that most of the domestic import resources come from Malaysia. In the first half of 2021, China imported 12290.526 tons of paraffin wax from Malaysia, accounting for 82.83% of the total imports, an increase of 12.03 percentage points over the same period last year.
