Celebration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the hospital
The unveiling ceremony of the affiliated hospital was held.
Wu Jinglei, director of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, delivered a speech via video, and Wen Daxiang, director of the Shanghai Municipal Food and Drug Administration, Guo Fang, secretary of the Hongkou District Cpc Committee, and Chen Jie, president of Tongji University, attended and delivered speeches respectively. Hu Hongyi, deputy director of the Municipal Health Commission, Feng Shenhong, executive deputy secretary of the party committee of Tongji University, Chen Yihan, vice president, Jiang Feng, executive vice president of the China Medical Device Industry Association, attended the meeting, and Zhang Lei, deputy mayor of Hongkou District, presided. She said that as the largest comprehensive hospital in northern Hongkou, the Fourth People's Hospital has long undertaken the major task of medical and health care in the whole region, especially in the prevention and control of the epidemic. It is hoped that the Fourth People's Hospital will take becoming an affiliated hospital of Tongji University as a new starting point, continue to adhere to the responsibility of protecting the people's health, base itself on Shanghai, serve the whole country, and strive to build itself into a well-known research-oriented university affiliated hospital with distinctive disciplinary characteristics at home and abroad, so as to provide a solid guarantee for the high-quality development of Hongkou medical and public health.

On behalf of the school and Secretary Fang Shouen, Chen Jie expressed warm congratulations to the 100th anniversary of the Fourth People's Hospital of Shanghai. He said that the development of first-class universities is inseparable from first-class medical disciplines, and the development of medical disciplines is inseparable from high-level affiliated hospitals. Tongji University will continue to fully support the construction and development of the Fourth Affiliated People's Hospital, and will focus on three aspects of work with the Affiliated Fourth People's Hospital: first, improve the collaborative innovation of medical education and research as soon as possible, and enhance the innovative development of scientific research general hospitals; second, strengthen the construction of discipline platforms, solidly promote geriatrics and pediatrics, and accelerate the construction and development of the Key Laboratory of Anesthesia and Brain Function; third, rapidly empower and cross-integrate the development of artificial intelligence and hospitals, and vigorously promote the construction of smart hospitals and green hospitals.

Xiong Lize, president of the Shanghai Fourth People's Hospital affiliated to Tongji University, introduced the century-old development process of the hospital. He said that in the future, the hospital will uphold the hospital purpose of "reverence for life and the pursuit of excellence", as well as the cultural concept of sincere happiness and harmony of the people, and strive to build the Fourth People's Hospital into an important medical security center in the northern region of Shanghai, and create a well-known and distinctive research university affiliated hospital at home and abroad.
Shanghai Fourth People's Hospital was founded in 1921, was the leading hospital of modern medicine in Shanghai Beach at that time, Professor Gu Kaishi, one of the founders of thoracic surgery in China, Professor Xu Baoyi, one of the founders of liver surgery, Professor Li Hongru, one of the founders of modern orthopedics, Professor Cao Juelin, the founder of China's "artificial stirrup surgery" and many other chinese modern medical leaders and medical masters have worked and grown here.
As one of the largest comprehensive hospitals in the northern central urban area of Shanghai, the Fourth People's Hospital has been based in Hongkou and serving Shanghai for 100 years since its establishment. The hospital has made important contributions to the development of medicine in Shanghai and even in China, exporting hundreds of professional talents of all kinds and assisting in the construction of two general hospitals. In August 2020, with the strong support of the Hongkou District Party Committee and the District Government, the hospital was relocated from North Sichuan Road to Sanmen Road as a whole, with a total construction area of 140,000 square meters, 1,000 open beds, 39 clinical medical technology departments, and the health care task of 1.1 million people in the region.
On February 2, 2018, the Hongkou District Party Committee, the District People's Government and Tongji University signed a contract to jointly establish the Shanghai Fourth People's Hospital affiliated to Tongji University. Through the introduction of a large number of high-level talents and the cultivation of young talents, the hospital has significantly improved scientific research and teaching, discipline and characteristic construction in the past three years. On June 9 this year, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission jointly issued a document approving the Fourth People's Hospital to officially become the Affiliated Hospital of Tongji University.
In recent years, under the leadership of the Hongkou District Party Committee, the District Government and Tongji University, the Fourth People's Hospital has entered the fast lane of development, and its comprehensive strength has increased day by day. The hospital has been approved as the first batch of Shanghai regional medical centers and the first batch of elderly-friendly medical institutions in Shanghai. The National Natural Science Foundation of China has been approved 15 projects (including 1 key fund), and in 2019, the Department of Anesthesiology and Pharmacy was approved as a key medical specialty in Shanghai. Pediatrics is the "Shanghai General Hospital Demonstration Pediatric Outpatient Emergency Department Construction Unit". Since the joint construction, the construction of the hospital talent team has achieved remarkable results, introducing 39 discipline leaders, 25 backbone talents, and 34 double-hired and concurrent senior talents. At present, the Fourth People's Hospital has gradually formed a hospital characterized by surgical anesthesia and perioperative management of elderly patients, minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of pan-vascular disease (cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and peripheral vascular diseases), and the construction of disciplines and talents has shown results, and the development trend of disciplines is good.
On the same day, the Hospital History Exhibition Hall of the Fourth Affiliated People's Hospital was opened, Zhang Lei and Chen Jie jointly unveiled the plaque, and the participating leaders visited the Hospital History Exhibition Hall.
Tongji University has 10 affiliated hospitals and 5 affiliated hospitals under construction, namely: Affiliated Tongji Hospital, Affiliated Stomatological Hospital, Affiliated Tenth People's Hospital, Affiliated Oriental Hospital, Affiliated Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, Affiliated First Maternity and Infant Health Hospital, Affiliated Yangpu Hospital, Affiliated Yangzhi Rehabilitation Hospital, Affiliated Dermatology Hospital, Affiliated Shanghai Fourth People's Hospital, Affiliated Putuo People's Hospital (preparing), Affiliated Rehabilitation Hospital (preparing), Affiliated Mental Health Center (preparing), Affiliated Tianyou Hospital (preparing), Affiliated Brain Hospital (preparing).
