No longer labeling "for boys" and "for girls", LEGO will eliminate gender stereotypes in products

Danish toy maker Lego announced the launch of the "Ready for Girls" project, which began working to eliminate gender stereotypes in its building block products. Lego chief marketing officer Julia Godmin said on October 11 that LEGO will no longer label its products as "suitable for girls" and "suitable for boys". Users can choose LEGO products according to their child's preferences.

According to the Russian Satellite News Agency and CNN, the decision was made after LEGO and The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media conducted a survey of nearly 7,000 children and parents in seven countries (Russia, China, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Czech Republic, Poland and Japan).

The study found that girls are being hampered by "unfair and restrictive" attitudes when it comes to creativity and play. According to the study, 76% of parents encouraged their sons to play with LEGO bricks, while only 24% encouraged their daughters to play.

Research has also shown that girls are more confident in all types of creative activities, but as they grow up, they choose "established gender roles." Especially when choosing toys, girls are less afraid of public criticism than boys (41% of girls versus 71% of boys).
