In the 1940s, Ma Lao studied in the Department of Foreign Languages at Sichuan University. Although the time is short, he is also an alumnus of Sichuan University. Before the founding of New China, Ma Lao used to lead the work of the underground party of Sichuan University, Ma Lao's lover Wang Fang was once the secretary of the underground party branch of Sichuan University, and Ma Lao's sister was a progressive student studying in the economic department of Sichuan University. Wang Fang came from a family of scholars, and had earlier attended university in his hometown of Henan, but after the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he fled to Sichuan to transfer to the History Department of Sichuan University and graduated from the History Department of Sichuan University. She joined the Communist Party of China in 1939, and at the age of 23, she was already the secretary of the underground party branch of Sichuan University, leading the work of the Party's peripheral organization, the People's Democratic Association.
In 1947, the underground party Chuankang Special Committee decided that Ma Lao would be responsible for running a secret mimeograph tabloid, listening to the telegrams of the Yan'an Xinhua Radio Station, recording them and mimeographing them, and sending them to the party and progressive people to read. "This newspaper is the organ newspaper of the Chuankang Special Committee." Ma Wanmei said. The party organization of the Chuankang Special Committee repeatedly screened among the subordinate party members and found Wang Fang. Wang Fang did not hesitate to undertake this work. Under the responsibility of Ma Lao, she overcame the difficulties of assembling radios and trying to avoid enemy surveillance, and single-handedly undertook all the work of receiving newspapers, engraving wax paper, mimeographing, and distributing.
When he saw a picture of Yun Conglong on the display board, Ma Lao recalled, "At that time, Wang Fang ran a newspaper and needed to listen to the Yan'an People's Radio. He provided a relatively advanced radio in his house for the king to listen to in his house.
