The film "Love" is the latest work of French director Michael Harmac, which is different from his previous film style. In just two hours, this slow-paced, story-free film points to the most vulnerable side of the human heart and shows the "human possibility" that we are willing to admit or ashamed to see.
Usually a good story can be summed up in one sentence. This is the story of a woman who is a very cultured piano teacher who, at the age of 80, suffered a stroke. So, the boss who loved her deeply, Georges, began to take care of him, and his uneventful life was completely changed. Their love is challenged from the end of their lives.
The film begins with flashbacks, beds full of flowers and open windows, and the presence of the police symbolizes death, murder. As the first to watch, I thought the director was going to tell us a story about murder. Even after watching soap operas, I thought self-righteously that maybe this was a conspiracy about love.
After watching the movie, I was very wrong.
The story is chic and the tones are intense. The old man could no longer watch the old woman being tormented by illness and becoming a fool. In the movie, the old woman sits in the bathroom and allows the nurse to wipe up and down her aging body with a towel. The old man watched from the sidelines, the aging body. In the past, she must have been elegant and moving, generous and decent. What about now? The disease made her become, no normal thinking, only collapsed in a chair, sagging breasts, dry abdomen, godless eyes, time can seize everything, human body, human thinking, human cultivation... If you want to look back on the past, you can only look at the album like the old woman in the movie, and say: "The past days, how beautiful." Then suddenly forgot why he had just opened a photo album.
Life is fragile.
Can time take away love? We are accustomed to watching the farewell of life and death in Korean dramas, as if love has overcome everything. The male protagonist holds the heroine's terminally ill body and accuses life of the injustice of their love. And the reason why this movie moved me is not the love of "willing to win the heart of one person, and the white hand is not separated", nor is it the promise of "holding the hand of the son and growing old with the child". What I see is that when people reach old age, they are powerless to resist death, unable to resist the pain of their partners, and unable to protect their lovers with all their strength.
It's not that you don't want to, it's that you can't do anything about it. He could only allow his lover to be up and down in the hands of the caregiver, losing his dignity. In fact, the old lady has long lost her vitality and has an empty shell, but it has dragged down the trust and love between them.
Having been sucked out of the soul, the unconscious partner, old love is not enough to bear.
Finally, without warning, the old man killed his wife with a quilt. He can no longer be called a "human" wife.
He washed the flowers clean and sprinkled them on his wife, whom he had personally sent to heaven. Many people think that euthanasia is a violation of human rights, but the film silently indicts this claim.
Unable to face a loved one who has lost his dignity, unable to snuggle up to each other. Love can even be taken away by time. Then, the director left us with a good ending.
Joyce had better end his own life as well. I have seriously thought about why? Is it because of suicide in fear of sin? Is it impossible to face your conscience? Actually, there are all of them. When he killed his wife with his own hands, I got goosebumps. Because I can fully understand the protagonist's heart. The director knocks on the door of human nature, so that we have to face up to this paradox.
The old man's choice to die may just be a good wish of the director. Born without love, so the self ends. The beating of life was also gently skimmed by the director.
