"Savage Mountain" is of extraordinary significance to Chinese, during the anti-Japanese period, more than 20,000 expeditionary soldiers died at Savage Mountain, they were not killed by the Japanese army, but tortured to death by the jungle of Savage Mountain, more than 30,000 expeditionary soldiers entered Savage Mountain, only to walk out of more than 3,000 people alive, and only one female soldier.
The only female soldier who came out of the Savage Mountain alive was Liu Guiying, she was a female nurse in the army at that time, and she happened to be a trainee nurse in Changsha Xiangya Hospital in the year of the Japanese army's full-scale invasion of China, and later joined the army with friends, was incorporated into the new 22nd Division, and was assigned to the field hospital.
Since the Japanese army invaded China in an all-round way, the Japanese army has won victories almost everywhere, and it did not take long for China's only few international lines of communication to be cut off by the Japanese army, and for a time the vast China became an isolated island, a large number of international aid materials were difficult to enter China, and China became isolated and helpless.
In August 1938, the Nationalist government recruited 200,000 migrant workers to build the Burma Road, reopened the international transportation route, and became the only lifeline in China at that time to obtain aid, and in 1941, the Japanese army invaded Burma and attempted to cut off the Burma Road.
In order to defend the Burma Road and jointly fight with the British and American allies, China sent 100,000 expeditionary troops to Burma to carry out anti-Japanese operations, although the expeditionary force officers fought bravely, but the Allied forces failed to cooperate, resulting in the return of the expeditionary force being cut off by the Japanese army.
At that time, the 38th Division's division commander Sun Liren suggested concentrating forces to retake Myitkyina and returning from the east, but Du Yuming chose to detour to the Savage Mountain to return to China in order to return to China as soon as possible, and it was reasonable for the Japanese army not to send troops to guard the Savage Mountain, because the jungle itself was the best defender.
Under the leadership of Du Yuming, more than 30,000 soldiers of the expeditionary force entered the Savage Mountain, the Japanese did not pursue, they were waiting to see how the Chinese soldiers died, and sure enough, the Savage Mountain was like hell, and the soldiers had all kinds of ways to die.
Liu Guiying recalled the days when she crossed the Savage Mountain, and she said in a trembling voice: "When I climbed the Off-Country Mountain, I had only one thought in my mind: even if I died, I would climb to the land of the motherland and die!" However, this simple wish is very difficult to achieve.
At that time, Du Yuming lacked understanding of Savage Mountain, and the preparation was naturally insufficient, but there was very little to eat in the dense jungle of Savage Mountain, the ground was full of rotten leaves for many years, and even a large area of swamp, mosquitoes and other insects could easily kill people.
Especially when sleeping, soldiers who lack protection are easily infected by diseases, and various diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, and relapsing fever are transmitted among soldiers, and Du Yuming also recalled that in order not to involve others, many soldiers chose to commit suicide.
