Prof. Xu's team revealed the origin and evolution of Citrus and Citrus subfamily, mapped the pangenome of Citrus subfamily, and identified a key gene called CitPH4, which has a high level of expression in Citrus plant fruits and is almost not expressed in related genera other than Citrus. This study is of great significance for understanding the origin and evolution of citrus and the regulation of fruit acidity, and also provides important genetic resources for the cultivation of new citrus varieties.
