The Rutherford County Fire and Rescue Bureau (RCFR) said on social media Facebook that the small business plane took off from Smyrna Airport in Tennessee at around 11 a.m. local time on Saturday (May 29) and crashed shortly after.

The plane crashed into Lake Percy Post about 12 miles (19 kilometers) south of Nashville.

According to CNN, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that there were 7 people on board the plane.

Joshua Sanders, the RCFR's accident commander, said at a news conference that by Saturday night, operations had shifted from search and rescue to search for remains. On Sunday afternoon, RCFR said on social media Facebook that searchers had found "several parts of the plane and human remains" in a wreckage area about half a mile wide.
