On March 25, local time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Honduras issued a statement officially announcing the severance of "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan.
Since Tsai Ing-wen came to power in 2016, nine countries have severed "diplomatic relations" with the Taiwan authorities: Sao Tome and Principe (2016), Panama (2017), Dominica (2018), Burkina Faso (2018), El Salvador (2018), Solomon Islands (2019), Kiribati (2019), Nicaragua (2021), and Honduras (2023).
After Honduras announced the "severance of diplomatic relations" with Taiwan, only 13 so-called "countries with diplomatic relations" remained in Taiwan, namely Nauru, Palau, Tuvalu, the Marshall Islands, Belize, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Guatemala, Haiti, Paraguay, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Eswatini, and the Vatican.
It is believed that soon, the above 13 countries will gradually break off diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Because China is getting stronger, who wouldn't want to establish diplomatic relations with China?
