The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, met with the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of São Tomé and Príncipe, Abnildo Nascimento dˈOliveira, at the Central Government Headquarters on April 23 to exchange views on tourism training and education.

The Chief Executive thanked Deputy Speaker de Oliveira for leading the delegation of São Tomé and Príncipe (São Tomé and Príncipe to attend the 6th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) and related activities. He said that through the forum, the participants were able to learn more about the latest development opportunities in São Tomé and Príncipe. The Macao SAR Government is very willing to provide tourism training to São Tomé and Príncipe to support the sustainable development of the local industry, as Macao also has unique tourism resources and has made great strides in the tourism industry.

The Chief Executive also pointed out that Macao can also deepen exchanges and cooperation with São Tomé and Príncipe in the areas of human resources and police training, especially to assist São Tomé and Príncipe in promoting the construction of smart policing. In the future, Macao will focus on exploring the market of Portuguese-speaking countries, including São Tomé and Príncipe, to export high-quality Chinese medicines, improve the health of the local people, and promote the internationalization of Chinese medicine.

Deputy Speaker de Oliveira said that the São Tomé and Príncipe delegation had been warmly received by the organizers of the Forum and the SAR Government during their visit to Macao, for which he expressed his sincere gratitude. He pointed out that this year's Ministerial Conference of Forum Macao will further deepen the friendly relations between São Tomé and Príncipe and China and other Portuguese-speaking countries, and broaden the space for economic and trade cooperation among the participants of the forum. He is convinced that Macao will continue to play and enhance its role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, helping enterprises from Portuguese-speaking countries to enter the huge market of Chinese mainland, and hopes that enterprises from Chinese mainland and Macao will increase investment in key industries such as tourism, agriculture and renewable energy, so as to foster new economic growth points for São Tomé and Príncipe.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Macao SAR Government for its support and assistance to young people from São Tomé and Príncipe studying in Macao over the years, and looked forward to continuing to strengthen cooperation between them, especially through the effective platform of Forum Macao, to jointly promote cultural exchanges and economic development. He also agreed that Portuguese-speaking countries such as São Tomé and Príncipe will introduce more high-quality Chinese medicines.

The meeting was attended by Zhang Yongchun, Secretary for Administration and Justice, Disney Leite Ramos, Minister of Economy of São Tomé and Príncipe, and Isabel Domingos, Ambassador of São Tomé and Príncipe.
