The Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, met with the Minister of Industry and Trade of Angola Rui Miguêns de Oliveira at the Central Government Headquarters today (23 October) to exchange views on issues such as promoting economic and trade co-operation between the two places and leveraging Macao's unique advantages to better play its role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
The Chief Executive welcomed the Angolan Government delegation led by Minister Migens to Macao to attend the 6th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) and related activities. He said that the Ministerial Meeting had achieved good results and that the Macao SAR would continue to play an active role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, helping the participants of the Forum to further strengthen mutual exchanges and cooperation by giving full play to their unique advantages, and promoting Forum Macao to achieve new results and new development.
The Chief Executive pointed out that Macao's cultural, linguistic and legal advantages can help Angolan enterprises to enter the huge Chinese mainland market more easily and expand business opportunities; Angola's economic development ideals, especially in energy, have obvious advantages and great potential, and the SAR Government is willing to provide support and assistance for more Chinese mainland and Macao enterprises to develop in Angola, and strengthen communication and ties on the basis of the platform of Forum Macao, so as to create better conditions for cooperation and exchanges between all parties.
Minister Miguins thanked the organizers of Forum Macao and the Macao SAR Government for their warm reception to the Angolan government delegation. He said that the outcome of the ministerial meeting exceeded expectations, providing a good opportunity for interaction and exchange between the participants, and the Action Plan for Economic and Trade Co-operation (2024-2027) signed during the period could deepen the cooperation between Angola and China and other Portuguese-speaking countries.
He pointed out that Macao's role as a platform is very important and has made important contributions to the common development and mutual benefit between Portuguese-speaking countries and China, and he believes that the platform of Forum Macao will continue to develop and play an increasingly important role as a bridge. He hopes that in the future, Angola will bring more investors through the Macao platform, further strengthen the economic and trade exchanges between Angola and Chinese mainland and Macao, and Angola will usher in more and better development opportunities. At the same time, it is also hoped that the SAR Government will introduce more convenient measures to facilitate the exchange of visits between residents of the two places and strengthen people-to-people exchanges between Angola and Macao.
