Red hemp duck is also known as red goose, yellow duck, yellow duck, and blasphemy. It is a migratory bird. Listed as a non-threatened species on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2012.

It is larger, with a body length of 51-68 cm and a weight of about 1.5 kg, which is slightly larger than a domestic duck.

The whole body is russet brown , with distinct white wing spots and patina wing mirrors on the wings ; the beak , feet , and tail are black ; and the male has a black neck ring. When flying, black flight feathers, tail, mouth and feet, yellow-brown body feathers and white upper and lower wing coverts contrast sharply.

It inhabits open grasslands, lakes, farmland and other environments, and feeds on various cereals, insects, crustaceans, frogs, shrimps, and aquatic plants.

It breeds mainly in southeastern Europe, the Mediterranean coast, northwest Africa, central and eastern Asia, and winters in Japan, the Korean Peninsula, the Indochina Peninsula, India, Myanmar, Thailand and the Nile River Basin in Africa.
