Born in Chongqing in April 1938, Fei Zheng graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1962 and became a graduate student of Professor Dong Xiwen. He once engaged in fine arts work in the PLA army, and served as the president of the Hebei Oil Painting Research Association and the director of the China Oil Painting Society. In 1979, he participated in the painting of the large-scale mural "Songkran Festival - Hymn of Life" at the capital airport.
Throughout his life, Fei Zheng adhered to the path of realistic art, conducted in-depth and systematic research and practice on the creation and teaching of oil paintings, and created representative works such as "Old Farmer", "Peeling Garlic" and "Spring". He adhered to the direction of "art for the people" and personally carried forward the patriotic feelings of Mr. Xu Beihong and the realist spirit of Mr. Dong Xiwen, who once said, "I just absorbed the elements of Western art that are useful to me to enrich my artistic expression." My work is still Chinese. I think that Chinese oil painters should start from the local area and participate in the dialogue with world art with local cultural and artistic resources, and the local government should always be in our hearts. ”
Yang Feiyun, president of the Oil Painting Institute of the China Academy of Art, said that he was shocked to hear the bad news of Mr. Fei Zheng's death, and he felt deep sorrow and was difficult to express. "Mr. Fei Zheng is not only a witness to the nationalization of Western oil painting art after the founding of New China, but also a practitioner of the era of Chinese realist oil painting. He is not only an artist with both virtue and art, but also an educator who is indifferent to fame and fortune, and an explorer of the integration of East and West.
