IT Home learned that Porsche China said that since 2020, the continuous severe shortage of global semiconductor production capacity has led to production bottlenecks in the automotive industry. Individual accessories for some models are still heavily affected, including the steering column with electric adjustment. In the second half of 2021, it learned from the headquarters that in order to ensure the timely delivery of the vehicle, the steering column equipped with the electric adjustment function of some models was replaced by a manually adjusted steering column to ensure that the steering wheel position adjustment function could still be realized after the vehicle was delivered. At the same time, it is planned to restore this function through modifications after the shortage of related chips has eased.

Porsche China pointed out that the global shortage of semiconductor production capacity is still very serious. After coordination at Porsche headquarters, it is still impossible to estimate the arrival time of the chips related to the electric adjustment function. This means that the previous recovery and replacement plan will leave customers in constant uncertainty and indefinite waiting. "Therefore, at the end of the first quarter of this year, Porsche headquarters was forced to decide to cancel the resumption of the replacement plan for the steering column with electric adjustment function."

In addition, Porsche China said in the letter that it has quickly set up a task force, led by Porsche Headquarters and Porsche China, to jointly study all possibilities and hope to find a solution as soon as possible.

According to the Economic Observation Network, there are Porsche car owners who complained that they accepted the manufacturer's delayed reloading plan when they purchased the car, but recently they were told that they would no longer provide the reloading of the electronic steering column, and the official compensation method was only to provide 2300 yuan vouchers, and it cost 30,000 yuan to install the electronic steering column separately in the 4S store.
