Recently, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulations in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Implementation Measures for the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products. Effective April 29, 2022, the recall will be made of a total of 14,684 imported and domestically produced Model 3 high-performance electric vehicles with production dates from January 12, 2019 to March 25, 2022 (including 1,850 imported cars and 12,834 domestic vehicles).

Reason for recall: Due to software reasons, the vehicles within the scope of this recall are in track mode, and the speed area in the central touch display only displays the speed value, missing the speed unit (KM/H). When the vehicle is driving in track mode, the above situation may affect the driver's correct understanding of the speed information, and in extreme cases, it will increase the risk of collision accidents and there are safety hazards.
Solution: Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will upgrade the vehicles within the scope of the recall to 2022.12 or subsequent versions of the software free of charge through the remote upgrade (OTA) technology, and the upgraded vehicle will display the speed unit (KM/H) in track mode, and the user can complete the software upgrade without going to the store.
For vehicles that cannot be recalled through the vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) technology, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will contact relevant users through the Tesla Service Center to upgrade the software for the vehicle free of charge to eliminate safety hazards.
Emergency measures: Users should drive the vehicle with caution when using track mode before the vehicle recall is implemented, and upgrade the vehicle software as soon as possible after receiving the notification of the recall software update.
It is worth mentioning that this is the second time Tesla has initiated a vehicle recall in the same month, and on April 7, Tesla recalled 127785 Model 3 electric vehicle. There may be minor manufacturing differences in the rear motor inverter power semiconductor components of vehicles within the scope of the recall, and the component manufacturing differences after some vehicles are used for a period of time may cause the rear inverter to fail, resulting in the inverter not being able to control the current normally.
This failure occurs when the vehicle is in a parked state, which will cause the vehicle to fail to start; this failure occurs when the vehicle is in a driving state, which will cause the vehicle to lose driving power, and in extreme cases, it may increase the risk of collision of the vehicle, and there is a safety hazard.
