Norwegian writer Edward, whose full name was Edward Munch, was born in 1863 and died in 1944 at the age of 82. As a pioneer of expressionist art in the 20th century, Edward, born in Norway, showed a talent for painting from an early age, but unfortunately, his childhood was very unfortunate, his parents died due to a sudden disaster, and in 1879, the little Edward came to a engineering college with the help of social organizations, but unfortunately, he suffered from a special disease, which forced him to drop out.
In 1881, through his unremitting efforts, Edward was finally admitted to the Royal Academy of Art and Design in Oslo, and in 1885 he went to Paris for further study. Seven years later, Edward accepted the invitation to participate in the exhibition of the Berlin Artists Union, but his unique paintings became the object of ridicule and ridicule, but the artists had to admit the fact that Edward did form a comprehensive original painting style with his own style.
Edward likes to paint, prefers to use the brush to interpret the soul and life of the characters in the painting, his obsession and thinking about art, almost to the point of madness, so that when savoring his paintings, everyone can experience the torture of the soul in the depths of human beings. In 1893, Edward created a work called The Scream. But after the completion of The Scream, he was not satisfied with the depth of the work, so he copied the pen over and over again, and finally drew four versions of The Scream before he stopped. The four editions were the first, created in 1893, with works as egg white woodblocks; the second, painted in 1893 as a painted wax wood panel; the third, created in 1895 as a pastel wood panel painting; and the fourth version as an oil painting on egg white wood panels.
What exactly is The Scream about? Judging from the main body of the painting, the painting is mainly set against the background of blood red, and in the center of the blood-red background, a figure with a very distorted facial expression appears, his eyes are hollow and his mouth is wide open, as if he is trying to bear terrible pain. The lines in the painting are rather distorted, in stark contrast to the thick and straightness of the bridge itself, showing a gloomy and oppressive atmosphere. Almost in his own way, Edward expresses the dull, anxious and lonely emotions in the picture to the extreme.
The master of art appreciation has conducted in-depth research on the painting "Scream" and made a pertinent evaluation of it. It was thought that in Edward's eyes at the time, the Oslo Fjord was filled with a trembling, blood-red illusion, which was both frightening and disgusting. If you look at it from an artistic point of view, the center of the work is the expression of the author's inner emotions, the cry of dissatisfaction with the dark side of society, the author's tangled collision between contradictory life and reality, and the call for the light of praise and yearning, which is alluding to the various shortcomings of capitalist society 100 years later, and the people who are struggling in the painting have almost become the skeletons after being oppressed and sucked by the flesh and blood of the capitalists.
It is worth mentioning that because the "Scream" paintings are so famous, two of the paintings were stolen by thieves and sold to individual collectors through underground channels. On May 3, 2012, at the Sotheby's Impressionist and Modern Art Auction in New York, the stolen 1895 version of "The Scream" was revived, causing great shock in the art world, and thus also auctioned a high price of $119.9 million, becoming the most valuable oil painting at auction that year.
In fact, it is not difficult to see that in "Scream", each of us can feel the repression from the heart, whether it is facing work or family, everyone is under great pressure, and the pain of modern people is here, and the worry and fear of the future is always a nightmare that lingers on our heads. Edward's seemingly understated paintings are actually the key to opening the dark door inside us.
