Feng Jiuhe's herd of pigs under the carving knife is very interesting.

Southeast Network, April 27 (Fujian Daily reporter Shu Hongxia) Speaking of the stone sculpture of Shoushan in Fuzhou, the name "Feng Jiuhe" is destined to be impossible to bypass. Since the age of 16, he studied art from Huang Hengsong, a descendant of the Dongmen school, Feng Jiuhe carved a moment is dozens of spring and autumn, he will be a clever fusion of natural beauty and artistic beauty, especially good at "pigs", "large flower and fruit basket", "crane", "zodiac" and other themes, the grasp of Shoushan stone pretty color is a must, his works have won the National Arts and Crafts Award, and have been collected by many art museums and museums, and have won the "Chinese Arts and Crafts Lifetime Achievement Award" and other honorary titles.

Be bold and innovative

Feng Jiuhe inherited the master's law in his early years, became famous for his superb animal carving, and later dabbled in flowers and birds. In the early 1970s, he famously carved flowers and fruits in the art world with the theme of flowers and fruit baskets, and created a precedent for large-scale Sculpture of Flowers and Fruits in Shoushan Stone, and his work "Fragrant Jade" was once listed on stamps.

Speaking of Feng Lao, who is also a teacher and a friend, Huang Baoqing, a master of Chinese arts and crafts and president of the Fujian Provincial Arts and Crafts Society, has a respectful face. "Feng Lao skillfully combines flowers, fruits, birds, and insects with various baskets, baskets, and boxes, presenting a fresh realm of fruit fragrance, flower beauty, and bird song and butterfly flying." He said.

In 1971, Shoushan Village in the northern suburbs of Fuzhou mined many large, brightly colored alpine stones, which suddenly attracted Feng Jiuhe's attention. He purchased a high mountain stone weighing more than 90 kilograms and prepared to create a "flower and fruit basket". To this end, he bought a variety of fruits and two bamboo baskets, put them on the desk to carefully ponder, and also went to the orchard and park to visit the flower exhibition.

"With this spirit of research, the shell of the lychee he carved was firm and the fruit was particularly full; he changed the tradition of the predecessor chrysanthemums only carving half a flower shape, and carved out the whole chrysanthemum, and the three-dimensional sense of the work was even stronger; he opened the spacing between the handle of the flower basket and the flower and the fruit, so that the flowers and fruits hung on the edge of the flower basket, making the flower basket more 'plump'." Huang Baoqing said that in 1972, the work, named "Flowers and Fruits", won the Excellence Award at the national arts and crafts large-scale exhibition, which caused a sensation in Beijing, and then sent it to Japan for exhibition and alarmed the Japanese art world. "Flowers and Fruits" soon appeared on the cover of the large-scale album "Chinese Arts and Crafts", and was repeatedly broadcast as the opening of the special column of CCTV, and was later collected by the National Art Museum.

Through the accurate judgment of the shape and color direction of Shoushan stone, Feng Jiuhe's outlining design of stone materials is often just right, which can maximize the natural beauty of Shoushan stone color and texture. "Thriving", now displayed in the reception hall of the Fujian Provincial People's Government, is a large-scale Shoushan stone sculpture created by Feng Jiuhe in 1979. According to Huang Baoqing, there was originally a small black stain on a yellow "chrysanthemum" in this work, "a little mishandling is a failure, but it was cleverly carved into a hard-working bee by Feng Lao."

Feng Jiuhe's masterpiece "Birds and Flowers" is carved from the Hollow of Duling Stone, and also contains the master's innovative and wonderful pen. "The most amazing thing is the little bird standing in the cage, you gently blow into the cage, the stone carved bird can swing back and forth, flapping its wings and flying!" Feng Lao once revealed that when he created, he first left a stone pillar to support the bird, which was convenient for carving in the center, and then used a special knife to cut the pillar off. Huang Baoqing said.

Three generations

"I grew up listening to my grandfather carving stones." Without finishing a word, Feng Wei, a master of Chinese jade carving art and the winner of the "National May Day Labor Medal", burst into tears.

As the third generation of the Feng family, Feng Wei's idol is his grandfather. "He was very passionate about stone carving and dedicated his life's work. Even if it was eating, walking, and sleeping, Grandpa was full of stones. Feng Wei said.

"Stone carving originates from life, and it is even higher than life. Whether you eat crab or eat fish, you must learn to study it carefully. ”...... These words, Feng Jiuhe did not say less to the family at the dinner table, and naturally entered Feng Wei's heart.

Pigs are one of the important subjects created by Feng Jiuhe. In order to create the image of the pigs, he often went to the pig farm and farmer's home to observe the dynamics of sows and piglets, staying for most of the day. "Fu Man Tang" can be called Feng Lao's famous work. This work, which reflects the prosperity of farm life in the shape of a group of mother and child pigs, was appreciated by the industry as soon as it came out. Huang Baoqing said that Elder Feng has lived in the countryside since he was a child, and he has heard the scenes of all things in nature, the idyllic songs of birds and flowers, pigs and fat cows, all inscribed in the master's soul.

Under the influence of Feng Jiuhe, Feng Wei's father Feng Qirui also grew up to be a Shoushan stone sculptor who was proficient in animal carving. Since elementary school, Feng Wei often went to the Fuzhou carving factory, and under the encouragement of his grandfather, he sharpened his knife with his brothers and watched the adults carving. Occasionally, in his free time, Feng Jiuhe saw the needle and told his grandson about the type of knife and taught him to distinguish the sound of the knife carving.

At first, Feng Wei did not understand why Grandpa was carving all day long, and he could not play freely like other children, but had to stay with the adults to help sharpen the knife. After becoming an adult, Feng Wei gradually realized that it was in his repeated "communication" with the stone that he gradually liked this intangible cultural heritage skill.

"Unlike ordinary apprentices who learn to cultivate light first, my grandfather taught me to learn to beat directly, guiding me to innovate in an eclectic manner and devote myself to creation." Feng Wei said. Today, he is unique in his "Bitter Melon" series.

Later, Feng Jiuhe led a family of three generations to jointly create "National Wealth Yannian", which is based on Shoushan Shanbo stone, which integrates a variety of Shoushan stone carving techniques such as round carving, skeleton carving, high relief carving, and thin carving, which can be described as a masterpiece of Feng Men's carving art. "Shoushan Stone conquered our grandchildren." Speaking of the inheritance of carving skills, Feng Wei was full of emotions.

Reward the younger generation

In October 2020, the "Shi Yao Southeast - Fujian Shoushan Stone Sculpture Won the National Exhibition Gold Medal Exhibition" was exhibited in Fuzhou Sanfang Seven Alleys, Feng Jiuhe's "Meiyi Yannian" was particularly eye-catching, the scene circle countless fans, the same exhibition of Chinese arts and crafts master Zheng Youlin is also one of them.

Shocked by the news of Feng Jiuhe's death, Zheng Youlin had a heavy heart and a hard night, "Thinking back to my growth process, many touching pictures will appear in my mind, and Mr. Feng has given a lot of praise and guidance to my works."

In the early 1990s, Feng Jiuhe's works such as "Flowers and Fruits", "Birds Singing and Flowers", "Sanyang Kaitai", and "Deer bamboo Changchun" were the objects that Zheng Youlin often copied and studied. "The animals created by Mr. Feng are always lifelike – sheep's head has spiral horns, smooth wool lines, and a feminine figure; pigs are particularly cute, with large ears, long heads, straight noses, short limbs, and black and white flowers, which I remember vividly."

At the exhibition of Fuzhou Carving General Factory, the two met for the first time. Mr. Feng spoke softly and amiably. At that time, I created many children's themes, he suggested that I observe more children's facial contours, structural features and body curve changes, and hoped that I would understand the origin of things and experience more from real life before creating, so as to achieve the knowledge of qualities and objects, and the image of the work would be more vivid and charming. Zheng Youlin said.

On New Year's Day 2011, the "Zheng Youlin-Liu Chuanbin Fine Shoushan Stone Sculpture Welcome Spring Exhibition" was exhibited at the Shoushan Stone Trading Center in China, and Feng Jiuhe held Zheng Youlin's hand on the spot and earnestly taught: "Your work exhibition was held very successfully! These works are beautifully carved, vivid images, full of life atmosphere, the future creation and design can be more bold between 'broken' and 'standing', increase the ability to control the work, make the work more imposing, more spirited, so as to better present a grand and timeless artistic conception. ”

"Mr. Feng has returned from the crane, but his persistent love for art, the pursuit of excellence, and the spirit of being willing to reward future generations will always remain in my heart." Zheng Youlin said with a sigh. (This column is a picture of the information, provided by the interviewee)
