1. When you are dragging the guide, press the Alt key to switch between the vertical and horizontal guides. Hold down the Alt key and click on the current vertical horizontal line to change it to a horizontal reference line, and vice versa.

Note: Guides are generated by dragging from the ruler of the document, so make sure the ruler is open [Ctrl+R] (view > ruler)

2. Hold down the Shift key and drag the guides to force them to align with the increments/flags of the ruler.

3. To prevent the guides from aligning the edges of the canvas and layer objects, just press the Ctrl key while dragging.

4. Double-click a guide to open Guides, Grids, and Slices [Ctrl+K, Ctrl+6] (Edit > preferences > Guides, Grids, and Slices).

5. You can use paths to create curves or diagonal guides. Just use the Brush tool to paint on a path and use it as a guide as you paint (the path will remain visible).

Tip: Use the Show Target Path (view > show > target path) command to trigger the visibility of the path.

6. The reference line can not only be aligned to the edges of the left, right, top and bottom layers of the active map or selected areas, but also to the vertical and horizontal centers of the current map layers or selected areas. The reverse also applies: you can align a selected region or layer of the map into the current guide, either through the edge or the center.

Note: Guides do not align to background layers. Also, make sure that the "Snap to View" and "Snap to > Guides >> View" are checked to work as described above.

Tip: You can find the center of the canvas by filling in a new layer and aligning a guide line with the vertical and horizontal center.

7. To add a guide at a specified location on the canvas, you can use the "View > New Guide" command. This is useful for placing guides in an action.

8. Use the "View > Show >Show Extras" command to open the dialog box, and you can set which objects in the screen are included or not included when you select "View > Show Extras".

9. When you select "Image >Rotate Canvas>Flip Canvas Horizontally" or "Flip Canvas Vertically", use the "View>Lock Guides" command to prevent the guides from flipping with the canvas.

10. After displaying the ruler through the "View > Ruler", double-click on the ruler to open the option of "Units and Rulers", which is equivalent to opening it through "Edit > Preferences>Units and Rulers".

Tip: You can also select a new unit of measurement by clicking on the Cursor Coordination pop-up menu in the Info floating panel.

11. To centralize the ruler origin anywhere on the canvas, you can drag it in the upper left corner. To preset the origin to its default position, you can do it by double-clicking on the location in the upper left corner.
