On 15 November 1995, 23 April was officially designated as World Book Day. Reading makes people progress

"There are no books in life, just like there is no sunshine; there are no books in wisdom, just like birds have no wings." As the 27th World Book Day approaches, let's step into the world of books and feel the power of time in reading.

The "post-00s" readers in modern university colleges

The Age of Dialogue

What is it like to read more than 300 books a year in this fragmented "shallow reading era"? What is it like to step into the library more than a thousand times a year? On the eve of "World Book Day", the reporter walked into the philosophy college of Shaanxi Normal University, the first modern university college in the country, to listen to the unique views of the "post-00s" students on reading.

Experience the thrill of reading

"Reading makes me feel that time passes quickly, life is nourished extremely fully, it is my way of repairing my body and mind, reminding me not to go with the flow, to pursue what I really care about..." Tan Xiaoqian, a 2019 student of the School of Literature of Shaanxi Normal University who read 314 books a year and was named the school's "Reading Star", loves books like crazy.

"In the time of reading, I calmly walk from one end to the other in the quantum universe to find a position that belongs to me..." Li Gaofeng, a 2018 student in the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Shaanxi Normal University, who stepped into the library 1,020 times a year and was named the school's "Town Hall Star", said Li Gaofeng, a 2018 student in the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Shaanxi Normal University. Although his ideas are somewhat novel, they also represent the cutting-edge perspective of some "post-00s" young people who love to read.

Tan Xiaoqian and Li Gaofeng are the second batch of students at the Philosophy College of Shaanxi Normal University. Like them, every student selected for the College has a dual identity, both as a student of the College and a student of the professional college in which they are located. "Book friends" get together to understand, summarize and summarize in reading, and slowly "digest" and "read thin" the book; then interpret and extend from different angles, inspire each other, integrate and penetrate, and collide with thinking, and slowly "read the book thickly".

"The so-called 'solo music is not as good as all music', this beautiful experience is only available in the academy." Bookworms relished it.

Founded three years ago, the Faculty of Philosophy is the first modern university college in China with a disciplinary system. Every year, the series of activities of the "College Reading Festival" and various irregular reading clubs that are regularly carried out before and after the "World Book Day" are highly sought after by students.

Some are classic studies that match the core courses of general studies in the college, and students from different majors read a classic together, travel through time and space to carry out dialogues with philosophers, study and ponder, talk about it, think and gain, and discuss and gain; some are "cultivated and read" in social practice, promote knowledge with knowledge, seek knowledge with practice, and encourage students to carry out social practice activities to protect inheritance, research development and disseminate and exchange of Guanzhong regional culture through research and investigation, academic research, volunteer service, etc There are also book clubs organized by student clubs or individuals on their own initiative - in a few years, 39 reading groups, 153 reading clubs, 623 members, 2598 people, and more than 20 teachers participated in the recommendation, introduction, guidance and reading.

Entering the book club, everyone starts from strangeness and curiosity, observes and participates, to initiate and organize activities, share reading experiences, grow up with three or five friends, and a small "reading community" is groping and searching, from the first sight of youth to gradually taking shape and beginning to take shape.

In March this year, the "Classic Reading Club", which was conceived by these small reading communities, was born. "The name of the book club is taken from the "Shang Shu Shu Shu Shu It is hoped that everyone can be inferior to their hearts, learn and learn from time to time, always use the classics to sharpen their thinking, and promote the cultivation of virtue and the cultivation of learning personality. Professor Yuan Zushe, executive vice president of the Faculty of Philosophy, explained.

On April 21, on the eve of World Book Day, the Shaanxi Provincial Library reopened, welcoming many readers to read and swim in the "Ocean of Knowledge". It is understood that the staff will disinfect the venue environment, books and periodicals and various self-service equipment regularly every day, and will also carry out unified disinfection of returned books. Readers need to make an appointment in advance to enter the museum, take the temperature and check the health code and itinerary code. Readers who arrive at the museum must wear masks throughout the whole process, and do not gather together or gather.

"Reading together in a book club is like listening to a symphony"

"Reading together in a book club is like listening to a symphony, no longer the monotony of a person silently reading, but a fusion of different disciplines and multiple perspectives and perspectives." Wang Ying from the School of Geography and Tourism enjoyed it.

Han Xin, who was admitted to the academy just after his freshman year, said that "classic co-reading" allowed him to use his free time to immerse himself in the classics during the winter vacation to explore and understand, and to follow the protagonist in the text to experience the unknown and deeply understand the known. Especially in the context of epidemic prevention and control, it is rare and worthwhile to have such an atmosphere of co-reading!

Zhang Xi, who has already had two years of studying in the academy, has a richer feeling. She said that reading is the noble behavior and temperament method with the lowest threshold. This is a long-lasting, silent process. She believes that the college's classic guide classes and various forms of reading clubs not only let her learn to read and be exposed to more classic works, but also as an English major, her writing ability has been subtly improved in reading, "Gradually, I have been praised by many literary friends on the road of writing, with small achievements, and I have also been connected with the publishing house." ”

Teacher Shi Biqiu, a professional tutor of the college, told reporters that at present, the "Classic Reading Club" of the Philosophy Academy has carried out reading activities around dozens of Chinese and Western classic works such as "Analects", "Lao Tzu", "Dream of the Red Chamber", "Republic", "Emile" and so on. In the future, there will be more classic works in the book club, so that students can read, enjoy reading and reading classics in this era of shallow reading.

Reading is not only "sitting and talking" but also "getting up and doing"

Reading and studying at the Philosophy Academy is not only "sitting and talking about the Tao", but also "getting up and doing".

Teacher Yin Zhaokun, director of the General Education Center of the College, said that compared with Su Ri's "desk" reading, drama is "on the field" reading, moving what is read in the book to the stage, so that the power of the classics can enter the eyes and hearts. Since 2019, from "The Death of Socrates", "Da Ru Zhang Zai", "Antigone", to the "Yuan Sheng Zhou Gong" that will be staged at the end of November this year, the Academy has insisted that students write and direct themselves every year, unveiling the veil of history in the form of drama, tracing Chinese and foreign classics, and inheriting the style of the sages.

The charm of drama can cross the gaps in the text, transcend the barriers of time and space, more vividly interpret the scenes in the text at that time and place, and also make the characters portrayed in the script more vivid. However, screenwriting is not a day's work. The students have made a lot of efforts to deconstruct and reorganize in various forms such as independent reading, screenwriting co-reading, teacher interpretation and drama salon, reading sharing meeting, script seminar, etc., and each drama must go through 3-6 months of polishing before the official performance.

"Pondering the mentality of each line of Socrates, the movement of his hands, the look of his face, the steps under his feet... I often stand on the field and think about the psychological changes of Socrates, and the action and psychology bring out the action, and the action and the psychology together bring out the lines. Unconsciously, I began to understand Socrates and entered the inner world of this philosopher. Chen Yuze, the actor of Socrates, sighed.

Leisurely ancient music, dancing in the wind, looking up at its face, looking down to read its books, portraying the cultural atmosphere of the ancient academy lecture hall and the house. Times change, classics live on forever. Nowadays, reading with teachers and friends on campus in the spring has become the favorite thing of "academy people".

"If there is a paradise on earth, it should be like a library." If the university has a paradise, that is what a philosophical academy looks like. The air of the academy makes people free. Zhou Kairen, who has participated in many book clubs, sighed. With the open-mindedness and ease born from the book, we strive to assume the elegant title of "reader", lead the reading trend with the scroll of ink and book, adhere to, take responsibility, explore, innovate, and dialogue in the era. April in the world is exhausted, and the breeze spreads the fragrance of books. 23 April is the 27th World Book Day. A few days ago, the Municipal Bureau of Statistics conducted a questionnaire survey on the reading status and digital reading contact of the whole people in Xi'an, and the survey showed that the number of citizens who read more than 2 hours a day increased, indicating that more and more citizens are enjoying the harvest and happiness brought by "immersive" reading.

The number of people reading more than 2 hours a day has increased

In order to more accurately reflect the reading status of the public, from 2021, the Municipal Bureau of Statistics has made a specific definition of "reading" in the survey, mainly referring to: the use of language and writing, with the help of paper, the Internet, mobile phones and electronic readers and other ways to obtain information activities, such as reading, listening to books, reading newspapers, watching news, etc., but excluding watching TV and students' homework reading. The survey was conducted online and was attended by 870 members of the public. Among the surveyed citizens, the average daily reading time is more than 30 minutes, accounting for 53.4%, of which: 29.2% of the reading time is 30 minutes to 1 hour, 12.6% is 1-2 hours, and 11.6% is more than 2 hours. Compared with previous surveys, the number of citizens who have more than 2 hours of reading time has increased, indicating that more and more citizens are enjoying the harvest and happiness brought by "immersive" reading. Of course, 35.4% of the surveyed citizens read for 5-30 minutes a day, and 11.2% read for less than 5 minutes. Lack of time is still the main factor affecting the reading of the public, in addition to the reading content is not attractive enough, uninteresting and lack of reading places.

Citizens' reading interests have become more

In terms of the choice of reading content, 54.1% of the surveyed citizens chose current affairs news, 48.9% chose entertainment and leisure, and 44.2% chose common sense of life; more than 30% chose humanities and history, professional knowledge and literature and art; more than 20% chose medical care, childcare education and natural science, and less than 20% of the surveyed citizens paid attention to military and fitness.

The biggest change from previous surveys is that the citizens' reading interest points have become more, and the older they are, the wider their reading interests. The 51-60-year-old age group pays more attention to life knowledge, medical care, literature and art, humanities and history and physical fitness; the 41-50-year-old and 31-40 age groups pay special attention to parenting education; and the 19-30 age group pays more attention to entertainment and leisure.

There are differences in reading preferences between men and women. This survey shows that women prefer entertainment and leisure, and men prefer current affairs news. According to the survey, the reading purpose of the interviewed citizens is divided into four levels: one is to meet the needs of hobbies, work or study, and increase knowledge, accounting for more than 50%; second, broadening their horizons and improving their self-cultivation, accounting for more than 40%; third, daily life needs and leisure and entertainment, accounting for more than 30%; fourth, mastering practical skills, accounting for more than 20%. On the whole, the purpose of reading is clear, and the habit of loving and being good at reading is gradually developing.

Half of citizens are willing to "pay" for digital reading

According to the survey, 69.8% of the surveyed citizens prefer digital reading, which is further increased compared with the 2021 survey. But paper reading is still indispensable as an important way of "deep reading". Among the most commonly used reading methods, 23.7% of the surveyed citizens still explicitly chose paper reading. Paper reading methods vary little between age groups and between people surveyed above high school, but there are relatively few people below junior high school, only 7.1%; the proportion of paper reading by urban residents is significantly higher than that of rural residents, 24.7% and 19.0%, respectively.

In the past year, 95.4% of the surveyed citizens have been exposed to digital reading methods, of which 84.7% have been exposed to mobile phone reading, ranking first among various digital reading methods; followed by listening to books, accounting for 40.9%; ranking third is computer network online reading (36.8%); video storytelling (21.6%) also accounts for more than 20%, slightly lower than electronic readers (22.6%). According to the survey, 48.5% of the surveyed citizens read digitally for free; another 51.5% of the surveyed citizens are willing or are "paying" for digital reading.
