The book sea is passed down from generation to generation

◎ Xu Peiliang

When I was a child, I often listened to my father's nagging: "Literacy is to read, farming is to raise pigs", because I was still young, I did not understand the meaning of reading. Later, as I went to school and learned more and more, I slowly realized the importance of reading.

In terms of reading, my father was always our role model. His father was an ordinary farmer, and in the 1960s and 1970s, he became a village cadre because of his study and learning. In addition to work and labor, my father often hid under the kerosene lamp and studied tirelessly. At that time, my father mainly read the works of Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Mao Zedong, and occasionally read some newspapers and periodicals, and often took notes whenever he had experience.

Living to learn from old age, my father never stopped reading. At the beginning of the 21st century, when his father, who was old and sickly, was close to dusk in his life, he always had books such as "Chinese History", "World History", and "Xinhua Dictionary" on his desk, and he once said: "Reading is full of heart and bright", which is the most simple explanation of reading by his father.

My father's tireless spirit of learning profoundly affected my growth. When I was a child, I especially liked villain books, and I felt that there was a big world in books. As I grew older, I began to read a large number of books, such as "Bitter Cauliflower", "Behind enemy lines", "Wildfire Spring Wind Fighting Ancient City", "Golden Light Avenue", etc., which broadened my horizons and made me understand more knowledge and truth.

Unwinding is beneficial, and reading promotes my growth. Later, I was admitted to college, and I had more opportunities to study. While reading professional books, I also read a wide range of books, from "Youth Digest" and "Star Poetry Journal" to "Philosophical Problems in Natural Science" and "Dialectics of Nature"; from Engels's "Anti-Dühring" to Marx's "Calculus Manuscripts", although these books sometimes feel boring, but once they are read, they will benefit a lot.

After graduating from college, I became a people's teacher. During this period, I extensively dabbled in the reading bibliography, read works on pedagogy and psychology, read the five-volume "Sukhomlinsky Anthology", and also read the monographs of contemporary educators Wei Shusheng and Li Xigui, which promoted professional growth well under the infiltration of the masters' ideas. Of course, I also read my favorite literary books, such as Ba Jin's "Home", "Spring", "Autumn", Ji Xianlin's essays, etc., which have become indispensable spiritual food for me.

Pu Songling, a famous writer of the Qing Dynasty, said: "Those who are book-obsessed must work in literature, and those who are art-obsessed must be skilled.", and the accumulation of experience in teaching and reading has undergone a qualitative change in my educational thinking. In October 2014, with the financial support of Qingdao Education Development Foundation, my scientific research monograph "Reading Lights Up The Life of Education" was published by Qingdao Publishing House, which added a beautiful style to my teaching and reading career.

The cold house is sheltered from wind and rain, and the sun and moon shine with the fragrance of books. Whenever I have free time at work, I often hide under the lone lamp at home and read my beloved books. In order to create a bookish family, in the process of renovating the old house, I also deliberately opened a study, storing thousands of exquisite books in it, and this study has also become the spiritual food of the whole family. In July 2012, it was rated as "Scholarly Family" in Qingdao by Qingdao Women's Federation.

The impact is often subtle. One of my sons and daughters also developed a keen interest in books. I remember when my daughter was in elementary school, her two favorite books were "Andersen's Fairy Tales" and "The Education of Love", and when she got to middle school, she especially liked "Dream of the Red Chamber", probably read it no less than 5 times, and she could skillfully draw the character relationship diagram in it. My daughter was also able to combine reading with writing, and her book "I Tasted the Sweetness of Planting Flowers" was published in the school newspaper.

Now that her daughter has graduated from college and become a high school teacher, she still keeps studying. Recently, she has also fallen in love with the novels of Shi Tiesheng, Yu Qiuyu, Tie Ning and Wang Anyi. She said that reading is a spiritual enjoyment, a baptism of the soul, and it has also greatly promoted the development of professional teaching.

My son was also a "little book fan". When I was in elementary school, my favorite book was "Shining Red Star"; when I was in middle school, I liked to read "Red Rock" and "Second Handshake". After graduating from university, my son entered the central enterprise to work. He kept buying books and reading books, and now he especially likes Wang Xiaobo's works, he thinks that Wang Xiaobo's thoughts are very sharp and profound, and he flashes the brilliance of truth in humor; recently, his son likes to read some biographies of entrepreneurs, such as "Ren Zhengfei Biography" and Cao Dewang's "Heart Ruo Bodhi". Reading is more expensive than use, and the son combines reading with practice, strives to explore new processes, and is determined to make new contributions to the development of enterprises.

The book sea is passed down from generation to generation. It has been more than 15 years since my father passed away, and if he had known about it, he would have been very pleased to learn that his descendants had inherited the excellent family style of reading.
