These beautiful landscapes are from Theodore Clement Steele (1847-1926), an American Impressionist painter known for his expertise in depicting Indiana landscapes. Steele was an innovator and leader in Midwestern painting in the United States and was one of the most famous painters of the Indiana Hoosier Group.

He made a living as a portrait painter until 1870. In 1873, Steele moved to Indianapolis. In 1880 he took a lesson in life painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and studied painting with Ludwig von L fftz (1845-1910), which won the silver medal of the academy in 1884. He also collaborated with the American expatriate, J. Curry. Frank Currier, 1843-1909) studied landscape painting.
