The master behind the master

Elder Qi Baishi is a highly prolific painter with a strong creative passion, in addition to his own creations, he also specially educates and promotes the younger generations in the art world. Therefore, The old man of Shiraishi had many students, and these students later became one of the top two great painters, such as Li Keyan and Li Kuchan, which we have mentioned many times.

Today's Lou Shibai is not only Qi Baishi's proud protégé who has also been adopted as a righteous son, but also fully inherits the characteristics of Qi Baishi's artistic techniques.

Let's talk about some of the stories about the painter.

Lou Shibai was born in Beijing in 1918, his original name was Lou Shaohuai, and he used the name Lou Shaohuai, the character Yiming, and the old Anguan. His ancestral home is Liuyang, Hunan. The names "Shaohuai" and "Shibai" were all given to him by Qi Baishi.

Before his death, Lou Shibai was a national first-class artist, a member of the Chinese Beauty Association, a member of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a director and vice president of the Chinese Painting Research Society, an advisor to the Yanjing Calligraphy and Painting Society, a researcher of the China International Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, an honorary professor of the China University of Calligraphy and Painting, and a director of the Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

Lou Shibai was probably the youngest of Qi Baishi's disciples, and when he was fourteen years old, he studied poetry, books, paintings, and printing with Qi Baishi, and received the words and deeds of the old man of Baishi, and this study lasted for 25 years until Qi Baishi's death.

Therefore, Lou Shibai fully inherited the characteristics of Qi Baishi's artistic techniques, and his works are very qi Baishi's style, which is an important descendant of the "Qi School" art.

Lou Shibai is both the inheritor and promoter of the "Qi School" art. On the basis of the "Qi School" painting, he deliberately sought new methods and formed his own style.

In the world of painting, great painters have their own skills. In the past, there was a passage in society that evaluated the artistic achievements of painters: Qi Baishi's shrimp, Xu Beihong's horse, Li Keyan's cattle, Huang Gui's donkey, Lou Shibai's little duck.

The little duck in Lou Shibai's pen is very vivid and cute, and is a living elf. Of course, the cute little duck is only a small aspect of Lou Shibai's artistic career, and he also has an important position in the big freehand flowers and birds.

Like his teacher Qi Baishi, Lou Shibai also took on the responsibility of educating the younger generations in the painting industry and accepted many students. In 2015, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture, the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Beijing "Ink Rhyme Mid-Autumn Festival - Ten Disciples of Lou Shibai" opened at the Summer Palace.

Lou Shibai's poems, books, paintings and seal engraving works have been published in newspapers and periodicals at home and abroad for many times, and have participated in many domestic and foreign exhibitions. Lou Shibai has lectured at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, Beijing Normal University, Central Institute for Nationalities and other institutions of higher learning, and has been invited to give lectures at art academies in Singapore, the United States and other countries.

At present, the Great Hall of the People, the National Art Museum of China, the Museum of the Chinese Revolution, the Qi Baishi Memorial Hall and many museums around the world have collections of Lou Shibai's works.
