It was Easter, and Square Enix launched the "Hatching-tide event" in its MMORPG game Final Fantasy XIV (FF14), but one emoticon caused controversy.
As part of the event, various items will be collected, among which there is also an expression of eating eggs.
The emoticon shows a cute little Lalafell eating an egg, but the egg still has half the shell. This begs the question: How are you going to eat a hard-boiled egg?
"But why are the eggs only half peeled?" Aitai Kimochi, a streamer for Final Fantasy XIV, asked, sharing a picture of the emoticon on Twitter.
Twitter user Mrhappy1227 did an actual experiment (to some extent) and noted that "this seems like a very unrealistic way to eat eggs."
"Had to bite around the egg, not properly seasoned, and the yolk could be too far away to really touch. All of this is done to treat eggshells like cups. “
Responses to both themes have led fans to question whether the eggs are soft or hard, whether they have been soaked in soybeans, or whether Lalafell actually ate eggshells. (Note: Players are requested not to eat eggshells in reality).
Perhaps this also refers to streamer Ross Odonovan, who became popular in 2020 for eating a stocked egg in the game.
When he learned of this new expression of eating eggs, he said, "Don't worry, I heard the news." The official account for Final Fantasy XIV even responded to him. "We don't know how to reveal it to you."
This isn't even the first food disaster in the game. Last year, the launch of the Endwalker DLC made fans joke about its low-poly grapes, but unfortunately it was fixed in a later patch.
And now, facing the small expressions in the game, the player has looked hungry.
