I have to admit that the world of Final Fantasy 7 is relatively new to me. I vaguely remember seeing TV commercials for the original PlayStation game as a kid, and the first few hours of playing Matt Hoffman's Cyclocross in a friend's attic.
It wasn't until much later, when I found a cheap green-sealed physical version in the Circuit City store, that I was able to try again, but again only for the first few hours. When Square Enix released the PlayStation 3 version and was compatible with the PSP, I played the longest. I left Midgar, saved my files, and shut down my PSP, and I lied to myself that I would continue playing soon. But that was more than 10 years ago.

I have a lot of questions about Final Fantasy 7, and I'm sure they can be solved after getting through the original game or texting Joe Juba, the former editor of Game Informer, but there is one question that I have always struggled to solve, and I am afraid that there is no reasonable explanation: what is the positioning of the gun in the world of Final Fantasy 7?
In Final Fantasy 7, guns are used to attack and threaten, but I don't understand how lethal they are. Most Shinra soldiers carry guns, but the most powerful enemies tend to be sword-wielding. It seems that in the world of Final Fantasy 7, swords are a little more powerful, but they may be more difficult to use?
That's what I came to after experiencing most of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but near the end, President Shinra completely turned my speculation upside down. To avoid spoilers, I won't go into details, but in the plot, President Shinra was once cornered, he was scared, and tried to negotiate with Barrett to spare his life.
You know, Barrett's right arm was changed to a machine gun. Suddenly, however, he ran to his desk and inexplicably regained his confidence. Instead of begging for mercy, he began to insult Barrett's noble cause because... He actually got the gun and pointed it at Barrett.
Final Fantasy 7 arguably started a tradition of an otherwise harmless attack that ended up being deadly, but I was incredibly puzzled by this scenario. Early in the game, there was a cutscene where Leslie and Cole face each other with guns raised, which puzzled me at the time, but I accepted it because these two were not members of the squad after all, they seemed to be ordinary untrained people.
But what about Barrett? Barrett was shot at least a hundred thousand times before coming to President Shinra's office. The entire squad members, including Claude with his sword, seemed to be taken aback by Captain Shinra's threat, which was even more confusing.

I didn't even mention that early in the game, temporary teammate Wei Ji was shot in the butt almost fatally, and although he ate a lot of guns during the fight, I don't know why getting shot in the butt causes more damage than a normal bullet.
I had hoped that Final Fantasy 7 Core Crisis Reunion would finally solve the mystery of this gun vs sword, but it instead deepened my confusion. The ending proves that guns are indeed deadly, even if you're a swordsman.
Ultimately, I boiled it down to the logic of video games and stopped worrying about how guns work in the world of Final Fantasy 7. Sometimes guns are deadly; But most of the time, it will only make you lose a little health, so let's stop bothering. But I do think players are no longer ignoring these story holes, and I can't help but be bothered by settings that developers may not have thought much of for a long time. I believe their focus should be on bigger development challenges, after all, that's what is more worth the time to solve.
I hope that the next chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 remastered series, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, will take some time to solve my puzzles. If you can make a scene of eating pizza at her parents' house in order to give Jesse a little background, then it shouldn't hurt to let Tifa take a few minutes to explain the location of guns in this world, right?
